Things called balance and metagame come to mind. Remember, $20KPLO is a lot different than say $25PLO lol. Smile

Something tells me BTN is ziig?

Hah, yes, I have read that post many times and it is awesome.

In this case, I'm not sure that tacit agreement of street poker was reached between Ziig and Isildur, or perhaps when these guys square off against eachtoher, the contract of insanity has already been signed in blood, I don't know.

One thing about that MagicNinja post, however, is that it is quite dated. Street poker in its essence is based upon the idea of exploitation. Meaning it's two guys going animal on one another, and the one who adjusts poorly, loses.

In a day in which players strive to play GTO rather than exploitative, is there a place for street poker any longer? The levels of aggression that were once appropriate, especially in HU matches, now seem like they're probably just poorly applied in the modern context of poker.

But what do I know?

I don't think street poker is exactly that. The idea as I see it is that they agree to play completely exploitably and that if either adjusts well by going back to non-street, the other will simply respond by playing non-street too and it will become boring. The one who adjusts poorly loses, but they are also effectively forbidden to adjust well.

There's technically no place for street poker, but people will still play it as long as ego and degenness exists. I don't think many players who play HS versus another HS player is striving to play GTO bar a few, definitely not Isil or Ziig. I think whenever Isildur sits at a table, he's agreed to play street poker no matter who else agrees or not.
