PLO Dojo: Episode Three by DJ Sensei

Welcome to the Dojo. This week the students and DJ Sensei review a student video. There is a lot of theory discussed as the students ask questions of DJ and vice versa.

At 21:20 we fold QT99hhhx on the CO. Am I correct in thinking that this is a mistake?

Yea, I'd raise there. I would have mentioned it if we weren't discussing other things at the time.

I'm really liking this series.

Im a 100plo reg so this video was great for me. Thought that David played v well and it was great to hear 4-5 different thoughts on each hand - great format.

I do like this series very much. I only hopped to see a lot of 3 bet pots.

upper left, AKKQ. is this a spot where if we were only 100 blinds deep we'd normally 3bet pre and shove over a 4bet? would that be spewy? would we call a 4bet and get it in on a lot of flops? I know this vid series was made a few years ago and it seems like from the commentary that most of what an okay player's 4bet range is is AAxx...is that still roughly the case today? we also have one of the aces so i guess that limits the combos of AA villain can have. with the money already in the middle (assuming we 3bet and get 4bet and are only 100 bb deep) even if we put most of his range as AAxx aren't we priced in to call?

Yes to 3betting (even deeper than this I think its a 3bet for the most part, AKKQ with a suit is quite strong and about as playable as KK hands get, even multiway). However, we would fold to a 4bet because we simply have bad equity (only 28% against AA**!). It is safe to assume that a 4bet is AA** until you have a good reason to think otherwise, and even against someone with a "wide" 4betting range, AA** will make up a sizeable portion of it.

Once you start to get extra-deep, things get more interesting because solid players will be flatting more of their AA hands and 4betting more of their other strong runny hands. Against such a player, I may flat this hand pre OOP to avoid such difficult situations (but of course if you did 3bet you would probably call a 4bet)
