Beginner Full Ring Player

Ok, so I'm probably not a true beginner as I played in casino's for about 30hr/week for a couple of years (2005-2007)- but I've got less than 9 total months playing online-and mostly for stakes under 50. I haven't played at all since last summer.
Full ring seems to most natural for me, coming from casinos. I'm still on the 7 day trial but plan to join the site (do nothing to prevent billing) at the end of the week.
So- from experience, can you guys recommend some series to get me going? I haven't played any poker at all and have just finished reviewing the math videos (excellent). The games I'm playing are super-micros, because I'm a life-nit and want to earn the money I play with. So far 20 has become 130, so it's 5nL for a while now.

Hey there Gina!
Welcome to the site, I'm sure you will find much help on your path to becoming a very skilled poker player ![]()
To adress a few of your points:
A) There aren't really any series that apply to your stakes <NL10, so i think you're much better off just playing alot and get some experience and hopefully beat up the games (they are very soft)
B) Regarding the bankroll: Excellent stand, and i think this is by far the best way to go, some people might argue that posting up $500 or more to play NL25 has some merits since the players are almost as worse as the lower stakes, but this is the first level where you'll find regulars that may appear "solid" on the fly.
Once you get to NL25 and crush there you can start watching bottomsets videos, which i find lays a very solid foundation to fullring (nitring i like to call it :-))
Good luck with it, and once again welcome to the DC family!
If you are going to start small I would watch the "To Nit or Not to Nit" series by DJ Sensei. It's a great starting point.
Then I would check out "Movin' On Up: FR" by Nolan. His stuff is great but it moves up in stakes pretty quickly so it might not all be relevant to the stakes you are playing right now.
Chris and Killbill, thanks!
Yes, I've been taunted a bit by other players I know about my nittiness and not just dropping money into my account, but I think this is for the best.
I have another consideration, a fiance' (the reason I haven't played poker for months) who is just now giving consideration to the idea that poker isn't pure gambling. The last thing I want him to see is me investing anything more than my initial 20 to create a bankroll, so I'm being very careful.
Based on your suggestions, I'll first watch the videos by DJ Sensei, and once I reach 25nL will start watching those by Bottomset.
Again, thank you for the welcome!!

Welcome Gina! You can also check out the video guide thread for some help regarding types of videos.
Blam!
(scroll down a little bit for full ring)
Definitely remember to post lots of questions regarding hands in the FR thread. People are always here to help.
I would also recommend sounded simple's two videos on FR play, especially the one posted just today. It has some very solid advice for beating even the lowest micro stakes game.
I would suggest the Coaching Tree videos. Even though they are mostly 6max, the concepts Balgua Whale goes over are terrific and the interaction between him and tubasteve is helpful.
I would not rule out watching 6m videos just because they are not specifically FR.
Edit: And the series listed above are great as well.
Heya Gina, welcome to DC and FR in general!
I also come from a live background and find that FR suits me much more than 6 max and heads up.
As for being a life nit: I totally agree. I decided to start with 25 bucks on stars and have worked it into a bankroll I can play 100NL confidently with. I think it helps to move up in stakes, especially since even the 10NL games online are typically tougher than the 1/2 games live.
Nolan's series is, in my opinion, far and away the best FR content on this site. Essentially you should just watch everything on this site under the full ring tab. It's all good and there isn't so much of it that you'll be overwhelmed (hopefully with Full Ring Saturdays this season that will change!).
Good luck with growing your roll and crushing these games!![]()
--- Wow----
These videos are unbelievably good. I watched the first of the "To Nit or Not to Nits", and one of the Coaching Trees with Baluga Whale. Seriously, these have blown my mind with their quality and I'll probably watch each one at least 4x more to make sure I didn't miss anything.
As far as crushing limits- I seriously doubt my past two days ~13ptbb/100 over 10k hands is exactly crushing the limit- but it's not bad for playing semi-distracted. Only 51 dollars now stand between me and 10nL (or 5nL deep- which is my preference). I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has run it up from next to nothing.
Edit to add-- The F Do, when you came from live play, were you a superlag too?
13ptbb/100 over 10K hands would be considered "running like god" or "Crushing" imo :-)
One concern I do have, since I haven't played all that much at 50nL or above online, is that my online poker bankroll will grow faster than my ability to solidly crush a level. How many hands would be the minimum needed in order to say with a reasonable confidence that you're ready to move up? 50k?
I like to have atleast 30k hands on a level before moving
50k is good, 100k is better.

Yea make sure you dont move up solely based on the size of your bankroll, move up because you are beating your current limit for a nice win rate. I dont think you need to worry about that too much until you get to at least NL50 though.
