This is a concept described by DJ in Ringmaster. Have you guys tried starting your own tables.

For me, allthough Im no Ivey, no reg is going to sit with me and say well this is easy money. Fish, generally want to play and will sit wherever. Also you can ban shortstacks and halfstacks by sitting on deep tables and or refusing action to wang chung from beijing.

do you guys try this method, does it work, how much shorthanded experience would be wise before attempting this...

Watching an intro to heads-up series would be a huge benefit to you here. You would have to adjust hand ranges accordingly because most likely you would be playing against a typical 25NL full-ringer who is not used to heads-up play but starting tables against these players should be very much +EV. Some fish might be scared to play heads-up if there aren't any open tables some but fish just can't stand to wait around and those are the ones you want at your table anyway.

Just something to think about though: I'm not sure how many tables you play or feel comfortable playing but having a few tables 2 or 3-handed will be constant action and make it feel like more tables than usual.

Heads up against FR players is usually pretty easy because they generally play pretty standard/tight HU. If you have a solid game yourself you can't really go wrong.

The good/bad (depends on your outlook) thing is that the HU "matches" rarely last that long anyway so it's not long enough for anyone to get any solid reads and switch to a game that exploits the opponent.

By far and away the most profitable table selection technique you will ever use.
(Oh and a big +1 to make sure to start deep tables)

I have had a few times where the "match" was going so well and I thought it was such a good spot that I actually typed in the chat something to the effect of "We would like to just play head-up if you don't mind" when someone else tried to sit down. LOL and people will actually respect that. And the greatest thing is that the fish didn't take any offense to it either.

Starting tables is by far the best table selection you can do if you are decent in HU play and post flop skills and SS is very correct with comment that those HU matches doesn`t last very long but are profitable as hell, also those tables gets filled with bad players more often.

Yeah I forgot to mention that you get access to complete and utter spewboxes that people who don't start tables rarely see... The kind of player who is so bad they usually don't keep their stack long enough for the table to fill.

One other thing to look for that I just thought of that I had happen to me at 100NL is that if you have the time just look up the player's ID in the search because twice on FT when I did that it turned out to be a 100NL heads-up reg who was lurking around tables that were just starting. Like I said in my first reply I watched one heads-up series and got A LOT out of it and think that I would have an edge against a fair share of the full-ringers that I play against but I don't think that playing heads-up against the reg was a good spot for me.
