So lately Ive seen a bunch of regs open minraising from all positions and I wonder what are the merits of this and do they outweigh the fact its much harder to stack people when the pot is so small? What are your thoughts?

I play NL100 and 200 and don't think it is a good idea to minraise from any position. There are a lot of weak/bad players around and you wan to get value from them. Minraising the button can be a decent strategy, but only if the blinds are (a) fairly tight (b) not 3 betting light (c) not fishy.

I would just try it a session and see how it feels. But I wouldn't minraise from all position.

I'll give my opinion for what's it worth..... Probably not much but at least in .25/.50 and .50/1.00 I'll just 3bet em provided I got position I go into the flop at least knowing whether they have a decent hand or not. I never want to call a min-raise preflop so it's either fold it or 3bet for me.

I 3-bet a lot of these min raises.

Oddly when I misclick I minraise by accident a lot. Could be this also.

One advantage is it lets you play more hands pre-flop and have higher stack to pot ratios post-flop.

Why would you not want to call a min-raise pre-flop?

Edit: Only played it a few times and each time I have played a LAG style 25/20. Seems more suited for playing LAG....

I have started varying the size of my raises via position. If i am getting 3bet to death by solid tag players, i will start to min-raise or 2.5x raise. I also do this when shortstackers are in the blinds. I feel alot of multi tablers either dont notice, or dont want to be bothered with figuring out your min raise is.

Yeah I meant those who minraise as a standard opening size from all positions, I dont really like it, you get to play more pots oop and get owned by aggro players.

I basically have concluded that minraising pre kinda sucks until 2/4 where it is somewhat prevalent, particularly on Stars. In more advanced games, it is something you can employ for various reasons, but ur range must be balanced, and you have to be a better postflop player imo with marginal holdings.
