I've been trying to get into the WCOOP this year. I qualified for event #6 ($530 NL Hold'em) through the step sats. (via ONE step 4 ticket) and decided to give the whole process another go... this time around things are going WAY better than before. After studying a few of the vids here (good stuff ATM =]) and grinding out an asston of turbo STTs, i've finally got a respectable grasp on these. I've now got multiple step 4 tickets, but i'm not too sure what road to take.
I think Option A is to just keep chugging and try to get to step 6 and a shot at getting in the main event or $1200 for 4th and 5th, but i would more than likely only have one shot at that, if any, as there is no guarantee at even getting there if I end up going cold.
Option B however would be to take multiple shots at the 18 player step 4 sat. to event #20 ($1050 NL Hold'em). Obviously this is the more safe bet as I've already got four step 4 tickets. Like step 6, the top 3 advance and I believe $225 for 4th and 5th. I'm almost leaning towards this for some reason, maybe because getting to step 6 and busting out would piss me off to no end.
Any thoughts?

It's really how much variance you're prepared to handle. 4 SNGs, no matter what type of SNGs, of course is no sample size, but in general, a ride to the WCOOP main event in the step system is very variance ridden when starting at the bottom or in the middle, vs the buy-out steps to small events, which are still swingy as any SNG might be, but not as much so as a ride to multiple steps/SNGs higher and more games to go to get to your prize. It's not really easy to tell which would be more profitable for you, so it really comes down to how much variance you wanna take, if you wanna go for the big prize vs being happy with the smaller events, how much of this you consider to be a part of your 'bankroll' considerations if at all, etc etc....
good luck.

yeah thats a good observation... plus you have to take into account that the players at step 4 and beyond are a lot more solid than in the first few steps. i ran into a guy last night who i saw on one of the recent WSOP final tables (the $1500 NLHE rebuy event, i think his name was FatalError) but regardless, the inevitable variance mixed with more solid oppoents is something to think about.. just wish i had thought about it sooner, cuz as of today i blew through all of them. in hindsght i shoulda just held onto them b/c i realized now after the fact that you can use the step 4s to buy into the smaller WCOOP events ($215 6max NLHE, $215 HORSE, etc) oh well....

FYI I used my 4th step ticket to try to get into lower event. The competition was mixed. Still a few donks, still a few OK regs that were probably too tight late and a few good players who cleary "got it".
FatalError happened to be in the tournament as well, but he busted out early at a different table so I didn't see what happened.
I ended up in 5th for 210 dollars, a bit dissappointed I didn't get a seat to the tourney, but really 210 dollars is probably higher than my EV in the tournament anyway, hehe.
