I'm not a MTT player but from a strictly pot odds perspective he's getting about the right price.
I imagine you have to factor in things like the value of doubling up at a final table vs busting out etc.

For sure shove pre, you have 8.5BB.. 2x and 3x are both bad, bad villains will flat you with random hands (which they fold to a jam; which is good for you as you pick up a lot of blinds/antes: chips). With this stack depth you are pretty much priced in to call once you raise (especially 3x) vs a shove anyway (whereas if you had say 13, raise folding has much more merit as you can easily fold to a reshove from villains)
As played calling isn't too bad for him I guess, altho prob still a fold, can't blame him though weak players are going to make mistakes like that for sure.

Does prize structure matter. I.E. ICM considerstions. What were the prizes and stacks as these are really relevent.
If you have been shove happy then you can fold this maybe.Just shove or fold.

Also I would recommend you not worry about your table image at this point in the tourney. Just play mathematically like everyone else. Have you read the book " kill everyone"? I think there's some push/fold charts that would benefit final table play.

Haven't read it but I will, thanks for the recommendation. If I fold I'm giving the BB a walk, is that ever a good idea? I'm not sure I've ever even seen that discussed.

If you raise, it has to be a shove. Otherwise. You must fold.
And yes, stealing the blinds is widely and relentlessly discussed.
