Generally yes. You're never check folding, but you might sometimes want to check if the flop has hit you in some sort of way.

If the flop comes 225 you might want to make a small bet to encourage him to come over the top as you are not going to make any hands that are worse than yours fold.

If the flop comes KK4 you're going to want to check the flop and bet small on the turn if he checks back.

If the flop comes 785 you're going to want to shove
