Awesome news!
My new thread got eaten - will post here instead
Downloadable PPT is out in public beta.
Background
----------
It's hard to believe, but propokertools.com has been on the web for
over five years now. The website has been a personal project of mine
that I've gradually improved as free time has presented itself. In the
past few years, my free time has been gradually evaporating. Not being
able to work on my favorite project has been driving me slowly crazy.
I've mentioned on more than one occasion on various online forums how
many things I could accomplish with ProPokerTools if only I were fired
or quit my day job.
I quit my day job.
Introducing the Downloadable ProPokerTools Odds Oracle!!!
---------------------------------------------------------
The ProPokerTools Odds Oracle is a downloadable program for
Windows/Mac/Linux that answers poker probability questions. The link
with all the details is here: http://propokertools.com/odds_oracle.
Points of Note
--------------
- This is the first open beta release. Many, _many_ more features and
conveniences are on the way in the next few weeks and months,
depending on what kind of encouragement (and $$$) I get in developing this
product.
- Supports Hold'em, Omaha, and Omaha-Hi. For now.
- Does all the basic equity stuff you are used to on propokertools.com.
- Multi-core enabled.
- Unique 'Ask the Oracle' feature allows you to construct a query
using pulldown menus. For instance "How often does player 1 have the
nut lo on the turn?" "How often do at least 2 players have at least 25%
equity on the flop?" etc. etc.
- "Common Questions" option for computing all of the most typical
queries such as equity graphs, all in equity, hand types, etc. etc.
- Fully functional PQL interpreter
- (Very) rudimentary graphical range-of-hands pickers.
- The program has free and premium (paid) features. There is a free
trial license on the download page which is good until March 31, 2011.
I am offering a deal to folks who want to pay now rather than later
for a license key - $30 for a permanent license (all upgrades free).
Given how much more effort I plan to put into this product, you're not
likely to see a $30 price point for very long.
Cheers,
bachfan
Looks great! If I may make an aesthetic suggestion, the icon should be that little cog wheel with the spade in the middle on the left side of the splash screen. That would look way better on my dock. ![]()
Do you plan on increasing functionality in the graphical range-of-hands picker? As it was I'm fairly pleased with it, although I've only just tried it.

Thanks for the note. Aesthetics is something I can always use help on (just ask my wife...)
As for the range-of-hands picker, I have a couple of unique ideas for omaha that I want to try out at some point.
Seeing something new and innovative for an omaha hand range selector would be refreshing! As is I think its shaping up to be quite the nice tool.
I am interested in buying the license due to your hard work and the help your site has provided me over time, but I play mostly Stud games. Can I expect this to be added in the near future?
edit: Am I doing something wrong? I can't get it to "run simulation." I put in the free license key and am trying both omaha hi and omaha hi/lo 3 handed. Do I maybe need to use the Java version? I am not very good with computers, sorry.

Send me a screenshot of what you see. You can try downloading with the bundled java and see if that fixes it.
I will be adding stud - it is just a question of when.
Thanks for your hard work! I love this new program. I've been recommending it to my poker peers. I look forward to it's progress. Good luck, Yojimgari

Thank you for the kind words.

A few questions:
Any plan to add the existing stud software to this, even if it is just the equity sim? If yes, will that be included with the $30 or will it be a separate license?
Any plans to add draw game support? Same question--if yes, will it still be covered with the one license?
Are you going to add a "graph" functionality similar to what you have on your website? As a PLO player I find that to be extremely useful.
I plan on buying a new computer soonish (or so I have been saying for the last 6 months), am I going to have a hard time if I register the oracle on this computer to switch it to a new computer?
Actually I just saw the graphing function in ask the oracle, I guess I should have played around with this more. I am like 95% certain I am buying this though, great product so far.
There will only be one kind of license, and it will include everything. I don't do anything particularly nefarious with license checking - you should be able to run it on any computer/operating-system combination and it will work.
It is my intent to give stud as much love as the other games when I add it (likely in the next month or two).
Draw games are in the research stage - I have some ideas but more thought is required.

Which page is giving you 'the page doesn't exist'? (It's possible you might have bumped into regular server downtime).
The downloadable app (which includes a pql interpreter) is at http://propokertools.com/odds_oracle
The online PQL interpreter is at http://propokertools.com/pql

I don't get it. This looks like the same thing as poker stove. Only stove is more user friendly. What am I missing? If any thing I would think software that is the same as poker stove but can read your hand, the board, and your oppents range and tell you your equity would be the next step. Something that works with PT3 and HEM.

It runs on a mac, it does Omaha simulations, it has PQL, its multi-threaded, etc...

Keep in mind we're still in beta, but
1) The goal of the Odds Oracle is to be a general-purpose tool for answering poker probability questions of all sorts ("How often do I make an X when Y happens? How often do 2 or more players get X when Y but not Z happens?" etc. etc.). All-in equity (what pokerstove does), while a critical feature, is only one of the questions the Odds Oracle can answer.
2) User-friendliness/more documentation will become more of a priority as the beta nears completion (probably end of March)
3) Some kind of PT3/HEM integration will happen this year. What form it will take depends on what people are most interested in.
