I agree with this at least starting if not remaining informal. I've come to the conclusion it is not worth getting chest pains over free software available; codecs, file sizes and compression are a major PITA. Camtasia seems to be the way to go. Any brave soul just makes the video, posts download link here, people comment it in a thread. Don't need to be formal to get good discussion/debate.

I saw something about a CamstudioPro, was like $30.
Is anyone familair with that?(or have it)
I will get the camtasia free trial for the moment, and make somekinda video(assuming I can figure it out) by middle of next week.
Can someone please post an explaination of how we trade, post, or share these videos?

the way it's done at 2+2 is upload to megaupload or any other easy to use file sharing service and post a link.

Not sure if they are still doing it, but Techsmith was offering an older version of Camtasia Studio for free. I've used it and it works just fine.

Here's a link:

OK. I need help.
I have downloaded the older version of Camtasia.(sent to try and get a free registration key, but I guess I am two months too late for that..anywho)
I made a 32 minute video.
I have made an account at megaupload.
my problem is, I cant seem to get the video to upload from camtasia to megaupload.
I am sure this is only because I can't figure it out.
what do I need to do? how do I proceed?
if someone can walk me through it, or has a website or something...
I am going to play live now, will work on it tonight when I get back,
hopefully will have it ready to go soon, so we can see how this all works.

This is an interesting idea! When I get my computer all set-up for poker I'll start making some vids. I'm still waiting on some computer parts so it might be a while before I start filming.

Hi Mickey,

When you record a video in Camtasia, you get a file xxx.camrec, then it prompts you to edit the video in camtasia studio, which if you do any editing (removing part of the video, removing sound from it, there is lots that can be done here, but not necessary), you will need to save a second file xxxx.camproj. Finally, before you can upload the video you have to "produce" it into a standard video format. In Camtasia go to produce video as, then choose custom, WMV, the default codec is fine which is "camtasia studio best quality and file size", choose custom dimensions and use the same as the recorded dimensions, and then don't change any of the settings on the next couple pages, finally choose the file name (which will produce as filename.wmv) and that file can be uploaded. WMVs are usually the highest quality that works in a pretty small file size, though they can only be played in some players, most obviously windows media player.

its recording software, but I think i was mistaken... it can't be used outside of recording a captured screen... ie. something that forces you into Fullscreen... ignore my comment

Seems technically passable for our purposes.
