50NL maniac style profitable vs shortstacks?
hey guys, this is my first post.. I usually play 50NL, and I was reviewing my session stats in my HEM...
and it seems like I make more money 63/46 style, rather than playing more passive..
and yeah, I usually play with 100BB vs 20-35BB players, seeing that they're softer players than the full stacked regs... (im still learning HU)
its like I have to run them over, and If I dont..they start running me over and i might be giving them too much credit on a hand that they might not have
is this an ok strategy?
Before giving my own opinion on the matter, I have to say I've never tried playing 63/46'ish and am talking just from a theoretical viewpoint.
I think the profitability of this style is pretty much dictated by how good you are postflop. If you're generally able to get away from TPTK kind of hands and can distinguish whether your opponents are playing back or do have a hand, then this style can be extremely profitable. TAG'ish kind of play tends to be pretty face up against regulars, and god knows there are a lot of TAG regs at 50NL. Playing 63/46 will definitely disguise your hand efficiently, and when opponents are not adjusting and are being nitty, this can be a very positive thing.
I personally would not try to play this style because I tend to outsmart myself and will generally go a few streets too far and convince myself villains are playing back at me when they obviously aren't.
Just my 2c.

yeah, I tend to agree.. I usually let them win a big pot, to see if they're playing back with AIR/GARBAGE or actually have a hand.. (the only problem is some hit and run) if they do.. I tighten up a bit, and tend to play a bit lag style and wait for a big hand for them to go all-in..
i am pretty good at post flop, and I rather play poker than the all-in fest preflop.. and I understand the shortstack meantality is to double up and go.. so im asssuming maniac style can be profitable..
and yes, while it is fun playing like a maniac.. =) I know its not what I want to get a customed to when I try moving up..
