Ok this is my bust out hand for the Micro-Millions NL Omaha Hi/Lo. I really just started learning this game about a week ago. I watched the Donk to a Stud vids and started watching some of the other ones. Not much yet though. I have watched about 10 PLO vids so far but otherwise my experience is pretty much nought. As far as play goes I have only played this tourney and one before. Somehow I managed to min cash them both. Thanks Joe Tall. My thoughts on the hand: I have been getting pushed around a lot by the three big stacks on the table and have been waiting for my spot. This seemed to be it. When the guy to my right raises I considered flatting, but that would have let everyone else in and I could have ended up in a 4 or 5 way pot, floundering. Also with the amount of money that went would have gone in I would have been pretty committed if I caught any kind of a piece. I considered raising but pretty much same thought, so much money. Pot committed, etc. So I jammed hoping to fold out most of the table and get HU with the Raiser, or even take it down there. Turns out the shortie called me and the raiser turns up with AAKTs but I still had some ok equity. So what do you think. Was this just dumb or was I thinking somewhat correctly. Thanks for any thoughts.

Seems to me you have to go with this hand. Its interesting that it seems to do so much better 3 way than head's up with the raiser, but even so I suggest you are picking up enough in the blinds/antes to be worth just shoving. BB has got a very small stack and has decided to just go with it. UTG+2 has plenty of chips to go with anyway so I imagine could call quite widely 3 way against two much smaller stacks.

So I just think its one of those things. It would have been nice to pick up some cheap blinds against other small stacks rather than take on the big stack, but at the end of the day this is a good enough hand to go with and you just got unlucky.

An admission - I don't think I have ever played an o8 NL tourney, so don't take my word for any of this!

Yeah pretty much what I came up with as well. Super appreciate the input. I'm on vacation this week and I have been trying to learn some of the other games. The Micromillions gave me an opportunity to get my feet wet without jumping into the deep end. The big plus so far is how much I enjoy Omaha Hi/lo. I am not sure why exactly but it just seems to hit it off with me.

I'm definitely not an expert.

I considered flatting, but that would have let everyone else in

I don't think that's a bad thing with this hand. You've got the nut flush and nut low possibilities with counterfeit protection, but you're lacking those nice big cards. These types of hands tend to do best multi-way (RedHot's sims kind of show that). So I think I'd flat.
Also in a NLO8 tourney you can afford to get shorter than in NLHE before having to go all-in pre, simply because it's a split-pot game so you're less likely to bust out with a short stack.

I enjoy Omaha Hi/lo.

Me too, even though I'm not that good at it.

I agree the sims indicate that it plays better multiway. The question becomes whether our stack is so low, and the prize of taking down the blinds/antes so high, that it is worth going with it.

I don't really understand why being a split-pot game means you can afford to get shorter, as this seems to be critical. Do you know what sort of value of BB or M we need to go for it regardless in o8?

Well you're less likely to bust out with any hand because so many pots are chopped. I think that means you reach the "dead zone" at a lower M. I also think you want to see a flop more often in big bet O8 before committing. I might be wrong about all this though. They're certainly no way I'm folding this hand pre to a shove so maybe you should just go with it. Maybe a regular PLO8/NLO8 tourney player could chime in.

Another thing - I'm guessing the players are bad in this tourney so you can probably try and wait for a good spot before committing your tournament life.

I wonder if the multiway/HU disparity is more because of the Heart and K blockers that shortie has. As far as waiting goes: a call and a call from the shortie gives me a SPR of less than 2. The big stack had raised pretty much every flop he had seen for the last 5 or 6 rounds. I'm not sure if I'm going to see many better hands in than A238 with a suited Ace within 5 rounds. Plus if I do flat I'm out of position to two players.
