2-7 TD: River Value Bet

Notes on villain, although fairly dated, say he's capable of reraising me with a few of the rougher draws like 7643x, etc. Also, at these stakes I don't expect to get bluff raised too often if I do bet the river. In fact, I see a lot of villains content to just call with hands as strong as #6 here.

I know this is mostly a player dependent type situation, but in general at these stakes (or close to them) are you value betting the river with this hand given I went 2 to pat? If not, whats your cutoff? 86543 I would always value bet, so 87542 can't be terrible.

Also, 852 is about my cutoff for opening in the hijack. Does anyone prefer to just fold predraw or opening an even wider range of say 853?

IMO:

X/C to induce value bets from worse and suicide bluffs. After patting 2 streets its hard to get called by worse but our range looks to be on the rough side so some worse hands should value bet. I like a value bet IP.

Don't really agree with most of this. I think its very likely opponents will look you up with any 8 here, even 87653, but will just check behind with any hand we beat, maybe value bet 87543, but I think its unlikely.I also think its very unlikely villains will bluff in this spot given I patted 2nd. If I check and villain bets here, in my mind its a crying call, not a fist pump call.

I probably open 268 (fold it utg 6handed) but I can go either way with that hand, 258xx as worst hand to open there is absolutely fine.

As played anything up to 87432 is a snapbet as we have the mortal nuts, 87543 is probably the worst hand I'd valuebet, if we check this hand it's a crying call as he'll usually check behind most worse hands. Though you did draw 2 and pat so in villains eyes your range is relatively weak.

that's the key imho.

Once he checks, i can't see him having better than say, 87543 and more likely a 9x. I'd think VB any 8x would be right.

I think I failed to realize that as you get up to the 87xxx range there become a lot more combinations, as opposed to 86, 85 and 7's. Making a value bet quite a bit better than I originally thought.

Is there merit to having this in our river checking range to prevent bluffs and thin value bets in the future, or are we missing too much value?

dayoldhater I feel like you misread the hand and don't see that villain froze us on the last draw. Normally I value bet this hand vs a guy drawing 1, but its close to a check/call for the reasons you give, but vs a freeze guy I think its an easy bet.

I bet this without thinking. Yea, sometimes you're beat, but you're good here so often that you can't give weak 8s and 9s a free river.

Funny, I played this hand awhile back and misread the action myself when I posted it not realizing the villain did freeze.

If we assume villain drew 1 on 3rd, are people still in the value bet camp?
