Please check this video out and let me know what you think of the format.

This is something I have been thinking about a lot also, especially in live events like WSOP/WPT. Why not show all hands that goes down in between in fast replay.

I think this would be a really nice addition to live videos also, especially if you add some live commentary during the speed up hands how the player thinks the table dynamics changes during that period.

Great initiative.

Best way is probably to record the video then record the audio later.

No, I think a training site needs both real-time commentary and review-style commentary. They are slightly different beasts and while the latter might be technically more perfect, seeing the producers thinking on the spot is equally invaluable. Even donks like me can make sense of hands if I think about them long enough - but the thought-process in the moment is equally important IMO.

....

Love how DC listens to it's members. For example, Josh got advice to number his tables in commentary and so he does it in his newest series, and now Entity is now looking into criticisms on Whitelime's vid. I don't remember CR responding in this personal a way in all my time there, so please DC, don't let this great self-criticism slip and don't get lazy like CR did.

Did Whitelime stack you or something! That's over the top. At least keep it civil.

Excellent video, Emil is absolutely one of the very, very best NLH players in the world, savor the ability to watch him play, and try to understand why he makes every decision he does, because there will be a fundamentally good reason behind it, and if you can work that you, you might be on your way to being 10% as good as Emil is, which would make you extremely good (and rich).

What is with all these negative people trolling this comment page? I'll take any instruction from a world class NLH player anytime. We are paying a whole $30 a month to get a glimpse of the thought process that's worth millions. I thought the video was pretty standard and it did have alot of quiet time. That's poker. The last hand where you fired the turned King w/air and shoved the river was worth watching the video. I do agree that the best videos on DC are the ones where they use the replayer and splice together a bunch of hands demonstrating a concept. DC has improved my play much more than CR, thanks.

Emil, what do you estimate the overall EV is of your 3 barrel with the AJ at the very end of the video? Like is it close or is it way +EV?

In my opinion the criticism is a bit strong. I agree that someone as good as Whitelime could find something interesting to say in the dead spots but that's not really a big deal.

The key to good commentary in these videos as the original poster said, is to think about WHY and not just WHAT you are doing. There were plenty of times where Whitelime used the word "because" or explained why he made the play, those spots are great. The video is valuable as is but there's always room for improvement. Saying things like "I'm going to raise the AQ here" or "I'll bet here and maybe fire again" without explanation is useless since you are only providing play-by-play commentary. We can see the obvious, we cannot see the WHY.

Bottom Line: If you could imagine Vince Van Patten saying what you are saying, you could probably find something better to say.

Emil, why is it better to check back an A high flush draw as opposed to a T high flush draw?

dang, thac and nutsflopper are waaay out of line with their comments

I liked the vid, there were some great hands and you explained your thinking well in most of them

the triple barrel with the p8 hand on the 7AQ K 9 board was thought out very well

one question though: 21 mins in on the right you call a small raise with 63s from the BB and fold to a cb on a 2dTd3c board, saying you have a player behind you left to act and you're oop

but you already knew you were likely going to be in that situation when you called pre flop, and if you won't continue on such a favorable flop, I can hardly believe the call pre flop is +EV...?

you won't flop big that often and since the pfr is a lag, he's not very likely to pay you of when you do flop a huge hand and the fish has a half stack, so he can't pay you of big either

or am I missing something important here?

If you are really stuck for how to fill up dead air time, make some lightsabre noises.

I love this!

I forgot to ask: would you have fired the 2nd (and third) barrel in the p8 hand if the turn was a blank, like a deuce or something?

edit: the hand takes place on the left table, 40 mins in

Plenty of talking, even about hands not involved in.

Enjoyed it.

I think it's close but +EV in a vacuum. You also get some nice metagame benefits if called there.

Because A-hi can win at SD unimproved whereas T high almost never can.

This would really make it a close spot. Without any history, I normally would just c/f the turn.
