Yin and Yang: Episode Six by inavacuum

Inavacuum talks about bluffs that just didn't work and how you can deal with it as well as some bluffs that did work.

Yin meets yang at microstakes NL. The majority of pros view micro play as extremely standard with no room for creativity. While true for the most part, not embracing nonstandard lines will leave profit on the table.

Hi Inavccuum,
Great video theme. I have trouble in (live-play) getting blown off a really good hand (a set) by total bluffs (on very ugly boards - flopped flushes? made straights?).

In turn, what happens later (after being shown a nasty bluff) is that I end up calling another hand, but lose to a real hand (i.e. straight over my set).

NOTE: I know you gave the tech(sound)warning, but if the producers can somehow bring up the volume on the other person -- this video is a keeper worth rewatching.

Due to the way the audio was recorded I cannot isolate the other audio, I tried to even them out to the best of our ability then bring them both up, but I could not make it as clear as I would've hoped.

Should've asked me for some low stakes bluffs that didn't work, I've got plenty.

I think his bet size is very interesting, and something I have been notizing a lot. When he says 59 he is risking 59 to win exactly 59. A lot of villian is thinking, oh well this does only have do work 51 % of the time. Baluga theorem and so on, so Im gonna cc flop cr turn and look very strong. I really like the push on NL100-200 but not so much on NL10-50

The last hand has given me information I am definitely gonna use more often. TAG's will almost always b/f Qx in this spot.

Good video!

You said that our line isn't all that relevant against this type of player...is that because this type of tag is thinking more about this relative hand strength vs. the hands that he loses to when getting checkraised on the river?

If he's not folding KJ why do you think he would fold a decent amount of 10-x's in his range? The two hands are equivalent in this scenario right? Sure from an absolute perspective naked trips loses to more hands than the nut straight but if he has a 10 it's that less likely that we have a 10 in our hands...which means we have to have a set...our range seems to be very polarized in this instance to the nuts/air...(assuming that there is enough history with this player; and I'm not sure there was?) isn't this the exact type of situation where we want our image to be balanced so it's more likely that we have better one pair (i.e. two pair) hands that beat his weaker holdings? I would think our villian would be more likely to call us down light if he recognizes that our range is so polarized...

I have one suggestion...could you do some live hand situations where you cover standard/non standard lines and show where they are useful and why? I really think this series highlights the tactical differences b/w live and online poker...thanks for the great series and keep up the good work

If we break it down into its most simplistic we can say that this line works because this villain folds often enough whether he should or not. It's tough to use that as justification because then you open the door to doing silly things like raising dry flops a ton of the time. When the pot is this big however, and you know villain is likely to make a mistake, I can't really fault zaza's play. Your analysis of the situation is very concise, I won't be using this line against you Smile

Re the live hands, it's a good idea although perhaps better suited to someone else as I play virtually no live poker at present. I believe there is an ideas thread somewhere in the R&D forum.

With the 6s vs the nit that calls on the button, when he calls the flop cant he have some hands like ak.aq.aj thats calling to see a turn card since the flop is pretty dry and you can just be c betting? Also A10?,Dont you think continuing to bluff against a nit who called ur raise pre and your flop and turn bet on on this board is a bad spot?

I came up 53 combos of hands he can call and fold the turn or call turn and then fold river, more if you include draws he picks up on the turn with his floats, including some weak Ax. Then 52 combos of ATs/AJo+ he may not fold. Then add for the fact that in reality he won't be flatting preflop AQ+/TT+~ 100% of the time, nor floating with Ax/overs 100% of the time. If you prefer to bet and check/fold turn you have to be sure he has few to no bluffs in his range.

This guy is actually not a weak TAG. He is a good creative regular at NL2000 and higher.

This video is over a year old so unfortunately I don't even remember the guy. Re-watching the spot I see that it's not my HH but my student's and it is his read. I believe zaza coaches at one of DC's competitors now if you want to go over there and correct his read.
