I think that this board texture is very different from the other boards where you have checked twice, and he may even have anticipated your bluff catch in this spot. If I were villain, and suspected you might be getting fed up, I'd be super happy checking this hand down because it makes me look "honest" in a spot where I really might not be.

A little offtopic maybe, but whats the difference between VPS and STeal? Was looking on your HUD & I only use STEAL myself, have always thought that is how much you play from the button, or am I wrong?:S

The difference is VPS is your total VPIP from the SB, including calls and raises. Steal only includes raises from the SB.
