Tags look good this week as LHE though on the front page it has the green NLHE icon (instead of the vastly superior RED LHE icon).

That said, incidentally if any NL players wander in here I actually think this would be a good video for you to watch as well - most of my topics are applicable to ANY live poker game this episode.

Is AA (which now overset you) in BTN's range or would they usually raise an overpair on the mono flop?

The comment I made still stands. Mike is the most professional person at the poker table. Not even close.

Great! Tell your NL buddies. Smile Seriously, I do think pretty much all of this is applicable to live LHE, NL, Stud, etc.

Sure, it's in his range. But I am discounting it fairly heavily given that he didn't raise the flop (especially since half his AA combos have the AHeart and I feel will often raise here). Actually it's still in his range even when he fails to re-raise the turn, but again it's pretty heavily discounted.

Interesting stuff on Machiavelli - and here are some rambling thoughts: It made me think of the World Cup, the last England coach was accused of being loved too much by the players, the present coach is accused of being feared too much by the players. The ruler Machiavelli was advising had the opportunity to rule with a rod of iron, whereas today in a democratic system with majority voting politicians arguably need to be loved or they are out of a job. How is success to be judged - who would choose to be the feared Sheriff of Nottingham rather than the loved Robin Hood? When you are playing poker live (I never have done) are you only interested in maximizing your income, or does part of you also want to be liked and respected by your fellow players? Everybody likes to be loved, after all!

I see what you are saying about modern political systems and I don't really have a good answer for you on that. Whatever Machiavelli would say about present-day politics is probably not super relevant to this thread, so I'm going to just dodge that one and leave it be. Smile

As far as live poker, to be honest, I want to be feared. I don't want to sound like some lame reality-show contestant, but I didn't go there to make friends. Besides, in a casino I don't encounter many people who are potential friends anyway. Obviously my social agenda may or may not vary.

btw, as I was reading your post I could help but think:
Maradona - loved
Domenech - hated, and we all saw how that went
