You and Your HUD by sthief09

In this short supplemental video, sthief09 goes through all of the stats that he displays on his HUD and talks about the importance of each of them. Great material for both new and experienced players -- if you haven't been using a HUD, this video will probably make you start.

This is a supplemental/standalone video in Josh's series and is being provided free for all DeucesCracked members. If you have any questions about the vid let us know, and if there's enough demand I can probably put up a link to the HUD layout.

thanks,
Rob

Sthief, I really enjoyed this video. I think it has a lot of fundamentals that a lot of players don't really understand. They use the HUD, and probably understand what 20/15 means, but past that they aren't too sure. Especially things like what certain numbers on certain fields mean.

This time you have obviously just put some notes down and are expanding on them, it really doesn't sound too lecture-y Smile

I think this is going to be a massively popular series, and I wish you best of luck with the rest of them Grin.

Excellent video. The ranges you gave and how to differentiate between TAG vs loose players will be really useful. And yes, making the HUD available would be great.

I'll get the HUD available as soon as we figure out how we want to make downloads available. I think for now I'm going to post it on my blog. I'll post in here when I have that up.

To answer the question about why I don't use street-by-street AF's, it's mainly because I just don't think AF is that useful all around, esepcially for TAGs. First and foremost, it requires a large sample, especially for the turn and river, since in NLHE, most hands don't make it past the flop. Once you get a big enough sample size that all 3 numbers are useful, you've got enough hands for more useful and stats like wwsf, c-bet flop/turn, c/f flop% that can tell give you a better idea of how the player plays in certain situation. And that leads to the second problem with them. They can tell you if a player is more the type to play raise-or-fold, but not really if that aggression is straightforward aggression or bluffy aggression.

aggression frequency is ok for NL. I tried the overall it on my HUD for awhile since I found it so useful in LHE, but it suffers from similar problems as the factor, specifically that it doesn't provide any context for how, when, and with what type of hand the aggression was applied, only whether he likes to bet and raise vs check and call. and street by street, yeah same problem as with the factor, specifically with sample size. Ultimately I got rid of frequency rather than factor. I guess I couldn't get comfortable enough with it.

I definitely encourage trying new stats on your hud, and making mental notes about how players with different levels play. but for most stats, you're going to need several thousand hands, so mostly only look at those players with enough hands. this is how I've become comfortable using so many stats. It started with VPIP/PFR/AF like everyone else, and I've slowly added more. there are all kinds of bet/raise/fold%'s that some people use with great success.

Very nice video.

I didn't used the W$SF stat at all.

I tried downloading the layout, but I get an XML error. Main thing I'm interested in is what font you are using for the layout? Like it way better as the standard courier, but tried all kinds of fonts witouth the same results.

I should add directions. you have to right click-save as. just clicking it brings up a bunch of text. The font I use is Arial.
