No one's touching my trivia questions though. No IMDB. No one want to give it a shot?

There's not enough De Palma action so far... Untouchables and Scarface. Good...

What about Carlito's Way?

If only time for 1 Guy Ritchie movie I prefer Lock Stock over Snatch

Duh Indiana Jones marathon Obviously! (not Crystal Skulls also obviously)

Full Metal Jacket and The Shining added to the Kubrick side of things.

Something from the 80s when characters got totally pwned.. like The Thing or The Fly.

In addition to those and most of the others mentioned above... if the boys were round for pokerz and wanted to watch a DVD I'd make sure I had these on hand:

Lethal Weapon
LA Confidential
Miller's Crossing
Blood Simple
Mad Max Marathon!!!
Se7en
Any Sean Connery Bond Film... but preferably Thunderball!!!
Alien Marathon!!!!
Bladerunner
Falling Down
Drunken Master II
Escape From New York
From Dusk Til Dawn
Heat
Rounders
The Big Lebowski
Bourne Trilogy

Shit I can't even remember them all. Whatever.

All I can say is if I'm producer of the movie - i'm setting up a fund for victims now. Horrible tragedy. I don't want to completely derail my own thread (this was meant to be lighthearted fun not serious politics) but as a Canadian I cannot help but wonder how many of these need to happen before serious gun control is put into place. Feel free to flame away. Maybe lets start another thread to do it.

cool thread. but i'm gonna preface my list with the theory that a "guy movie" should be something only a dude would watch over and over again, memorize lines from, etc.. it doesn't even have to be a good movie since if it's too good or epic, it will be everybody's favorite. i think in that sense, true guy movies are flawed in that the most memorable thing that remains afterward is some visceral feeling that grabs at the male psyche--a primal urge such as the urge to hunt, kill or destroy (literally or metaphorically). with that said, here's my list in no particular order:

Tombstone
Crank
Heat
Taken
Gladiator
Saving Private Ryan
Se7en
Unforgiven
Rambo: First Blood Part II
The Untouchables

(with honorable mentions to L.A. Confidential, Rounders, Major League (these being more in line with figuratively destroying/owning))

but this is just what i know, and i haven't watched a lot westerns, so i look forward to seeing some reco's from this thread.

also, as for Godfather/gangster films, i feel these don't belong in the guy movie category. i think these films have more in common with movies like Wall Street or stories about businessmen since the killing/destroying is profit-driven rather than vengeance driven. also, wanton and/or questionable killing such as depicted in American Psycho or Memento has no rational basis, thus doesn't make the cut.

Ahhhhh someone who really gets it. I was getting worried when I saw Harry Potter show up. It is the purity of the guy film that I was after. Now I am not a mysogynist or anything but you will note that most of my "Guy" films don't even have female actors, there are a few but in most they have somewhat negligible, even bit roles.

Also iconic guy moments. My quote from "The Departed" - Alec Baldwin asks, Mark Wahlberg responds is an example. I laugh every single time I see that. The near constant exchange of trash talk is pure "guy". Many women would never speak to each other after an exchange like this. Alec Baldwin's character defends Wahlberg's immediately after this exchange. "He's a really nice guy. Don't judge him from this meeting alone." This is just pure. Another iconic moment would be in a movie that I would not pick because, as stated above, it is a Romance. In "True Romance" the scene where Christopher Walken interrogates Dennis Hopper. Pure. Especially Hopper's response. If you haven't seen this movie ... just ... see it. Also the scene in "Bridge too Far" also mentioned above. I am not going to spoil it. Thanks nawhead. You get it definitely. Although I might have to quibble with you about "Goodfellas" and "The Departed" I think you might have a point about the "Godfather" movies.
