but not that clearly, because the level of the game (say defending, strenght) is higher and closer today; an average nba player is so much better than 15 years ago imo

I really disagree here. The average player is probably a bit more athletic, true. But that doesn't mean the defense is tougher at all. With the way the games are refereed today, the game is sooooo much less physical. Jordan had to play against defenses that would double team him constantly and literally try to injure him every time he went to the basket, and only the truly hard fouls were called. And he would still drop 40 on these defenses regularly. If Lebron had to face this type of defense he would probably take even more uncalled for off-balance fadeaway jumpshots than he already does, and average far less than he does.

In addition, more athletic doesn't = better. Basketball skill such as 3 point shooting and team play were likely better in Jordan's era.

And honestly, the athleticism of the late 90s wasn't that much worse than today. It is admittedly better today, but the way the games are refereed more than cancel that out imo.

well thats so interesting. had those talks kinda often and there are a million different opinions out there, also from people that have some knowledge etc
i clearly agree with the refereepart but im not too sure how much that compensates for what i said

I didn't say that was untrue. I agree with you. But he's still a drama queen imo and needed to get carried off the court because of leg cramps. The way he was acting you would have thought he broke both his legs.

It's the way he left. With the help of ESPN he had his decision nationally televised which came off as an F you to Cleveland. Those outside of Cleveland, me included, feel like what he, Wade, and Bosh did was collusion, which players cry about when they feel the owners aren't "throwing money" around in the free agent market (happens a lot in baseball) forcing players to take less money to sign. Still others are just pissed because he didn't pick their team.
