SHERLOCK! - this is a great show with a modern take on Sherlock Holmes - really fast paced and pretty well written and acted.
Fine, Breaking Bad is probably one of the more entertaining shows now, but I think I'm a little spoiled by far superior shows like The Wire and The Sopranos (I even like Friday Night Lights a lot more than Breaking Bad). Breaking Bad is so implausible and contrived and I can't find myself identifying with any of the characters, so it can just never measure up to these other shows for me.
A couple other good ones: Enlightened, First Person, Human Planet (even though the last two are over).

How is everyone such fans of walking dead? That show is some of the worst trash ever put on television.

+1

and i really want to like this show since the premise of an ongoing struggle to create civilization anew was fairly engaging in season 1. but i can't watch season 2+ since every character other than Dale is so weak or moralizing or indignant about everything all the damn time. it seems like in every episode somebody is crying about something and it puts most daytime soaps to shame in emotional strings pulled per minute. *barf*

and it's not even that i don't like this kind of manipulation as i actually like watching a rom-com once in awhile. but it's just not appropriate to the setting imo, and it's just done so excessively. i don't want to watch 3 episodes of everybody crying over the little boy when i'm trying to watch some zombies get whacked.

Definitely not enough Mad Men love up in hurrr.

I really want to want to try Mad Men at some point, but every time I want to start a new show, I just read the plot and think it sounds kind of boring. And some of the comments on here aren't really encouraging...

it's about New York advertising execs in the 50's and 60's. they pitch products, they make money, they dress really well, they womanize, and they drink a lot. but oftentimes it becomes philosophical musings on the consumer culture or social commentary because we get to go "haha people were dumb back then." i think it's one of the best TV currently on air, but YMMV.

Homeland (Showtime) is great so far. Claire Danes is amazing as a CIA agent obsessed with stopping a terrorist threat to the US. Damian Lewis is equally good as a POW turned war hero, rescued after 8 years of torture in Iraq. Surprisingly relevant and even-handed in tackling the moral quagmire that is "the war on terror." The plot is gripping, mysterious and intense--definitely recommend.
