Inspired by the best TV shows series I thought I would get some discussion going on a subject close to my heart: Guy movies. Here's my picks to get the ball rolling. I could easily have picked 20 and originally intended too. However, as i sat at number 11 trying to decide if it was going to another Scorcese film or perhaps even a John Woo Hong Kong original to mix it up a bit I realized I should just stop. Go all in with my 10 picks and let everyone else fill in the blanks. So here we go.

1. Goodfellas
2. The Departed
3. The Good the Bad and the Ugly
4. The Godfather II
5. The Godfather
6. Apocalypse Now (not redux)
7. Saving Private Ryan
8. The Outlaw Josey Wales
9. A Bridge Too Far
10. Reservoir Dogs

By the way, this is imo in order of the best of all time - in this category. There may be some surprise picks in my list, "The Departed" in number 2 for example, or "The Godfather" behind "The Godfather II". I am prepared to defend my picks. I encourage everyone who participates to be prepared to list in order and defend as well. It will make for a more lively discussion. Some trivia: two directors make the list two times, one makes it three times, at least 9 actors are featured in more than one movie. Bonus points to anyone who can name all the directors, the actors and the corresponding movies. Hopefully, some of you will take some time to participate in this one. Its a subject that I love.

Quick quote: "So how are you?"
"Good, tired from fucking your wife"
"How's your father?"
"Good, he's tired from fucking your mother"

Name the movie and the two actors involved - it may not be exact but you get the gist.

Thats a good list you put together. I agree that the 2nd godfather is better than the first. I would also include Unforgiven with Eastwood on the list too. No love for the rocky movies. Gotta throw number 4 on there. That quote is from the departed, I believe it's matt Damon' character asking Walhberg the questions.

Is A Bridge Too Far the sequel to Bridges of Madison County?

I love Goodfellas and I watch Saving Private Ryan every time it comes on, which is a lot. I wasn't a fan of Reservoir Dogs though.

I'm not sure if Terminator 2 qualifies since it's more just action, but that's one of my favorites. A Bronx Tale is another fantastic movie if you like the Goodfellas/Godfather stuff. I'm actually going to go home and watch that now....

American History X, Gladiator, and True Romance as well. Others will likely say Fight Club and Braveheart too, but those are lower on my list.

1) Godfather 1,2
2) Raging Bull
3) A Prophet (Un Prophete)
4) Taxi Driver
5) Training Day
6) Man on Fire
7) Good Will Hunting
8) Saving Private Ryan
9) Apokalipto
10) Intouchables
That`s just off the top of the head, in no particular order, only Godfather has to be #1.

@Master Mischief you got the movie but only one of the characters. I'll let someone else have a shot at it.

@TecmoSuperBowl lol only the best pre-modern war movie ever. If you haven't seen it watch for the part where the Germans come to discuss terms of surrender with the British airborne unit. It makes the list for that scene alone.

@GTForce I kind of forgot about the Guy Ritchie films. Shame on me. Although if I'm gonna go with one I think it's gonna be "RocknRolla". Love that one.

@Noreaga Great list - bad spelling. (sorry buddy couldn't resist). Nice to see Scorcese getting some more love. No one has thrown up "Gangs of New York" yet. It almost made my top 10.

@TecmoSuperBowl - I like your picks btw I consider "True Romance" to be my favourite all time movie. I fucking love it. I think I've watched it about 20 times. I decided against including it because it wasn't "pure" guy movie enough for me. It is after all a Romance. Even if it is the most balls out, hardcore, gritty, violent as hell Romance of all time. American History X is a fantastic pick.

If you like "Bronx Tale". Check out "A Guide to Recognizing your Saints" obscure indie film with a pretty great cast, including Chaz Palminteri, Shia Leboef and Robert Downey Jr. Superbly acted, well written. A slower movie maybe but good.

yeah fricking phenomenal - "There will be Blood" I mean. It's "Raging Bull" and "The Untouchables" - just saying. The only reason I didn't put it (GoNY) up was because I already had 2 Scorcese, I figured it wouldn't be long before the rest were posted.

And "The Untouchables" is De Palma, "The Intouchables" is an awesome french movie from 2012, check it out.Btw i might spell a lotta words wrong but don`t mess with my movie titles spelling skillz.
