I'm wondering if this game can be played one handed?? I had surgery on my right hand and I am bored as hell thinking about buying this game as I liked some of the older ones from years ago. IDK how the new ones work tho. I basically am super slow with the mouse and have to peck keys with my left hand.

Civilization is awesome (guess where my nick comes from^^). I like Starcraft 2 and games that are similar to it, too, but in general I like to take more time for my decisions. What I like most about it is that you can take a lot of different ways to win the game, so it never gets boring.
And what mitch said. The expansion made the game even more interesting.

If you get it consider getting the expansion that just came out http://www.civilization5.com/godsandkings/us/info.php
most reviews are super positive and say it massively improves the game.
It does, although you have to like Civ5 in the first place to like the expansion - nothing new, just everything polished. The religion and espionage features are done in new/interesting ways, though.
@OP You can definitely play Civ5 with one hand - everything can be accessed from the mouse really easily. Thinking about it, the only thing I use the keyboard for is to end my turn with the space bar.

ha I was going to post this exact same link. If you haven't played it a ton, go with Civ IV instead.
eta: also if turn based strategy is your thing, check out the older heroes of might and magic games.
And if Heroes of Might and Magic games are your thing, check out King's Bounty.
