Hello im Bill from Greece and hopefully this post wont be considered as rant/whine.
Im a 2-5 live reg, poker in Greece is running from september 2010 so its kinda new trend.
Ive been playing lhe and nlhe since i was young and when i heard its hitting the Greek casinos i was excited. So although i didnt have a roll i managed to save up some money from my job and go play.
2011 was a really good year as a basically run godly and chrashed the tables really hard.
Total stats for 2011 are:
Total sessions: 92
Total won: 23703 €
std deviation: 783,56€
hours: 512
Average per hour: 47,36 €
Winning sessions:57(62%)
Losing sessions:35(38%)
my stats for the 3 months of 2010(september to december are kind the same as i net ~8k)
But then i had a big break from poker in january 2012 till april or may(4-5 months) due to some family affairs which kept my mind off poker although i was properly bankrolled but in no mood to play.
Eventually though i put all those behind and i returned to my favourite hobby, poker.
I starting going to the casino regularly and tried to put some volume and improve my game as much as possible.Stats for 2012 are really discouraging, although i do have the feeling im playing better.
Total sessions:73
Total won: 2748 €
std deviation: 639,77€
hours: 405
Average per hour: 8,95 €
Winning sessions:34(46%)
Losing sessions:39(54%)
So what are your thoughts, i know the samples arent big enough and i did get coolered/sucked out on most big pots i played this year.I think im comfortly rolled at ~5000bb for 2-5 and usually i buy-in for 100-200bb depending on the players stacks.Another thing to consider is recession hitted Greece bad and the games are getting dry, so most players now buy-in for 40bb in 2-5 and 5-10 games are almost non existant unless i play PLO.
Thanks in advance for all the replies.

It's very likely that most of the difference in results is due to variance. Probably your true winrate was not as high as your actual winrate in 2011, nor as low as your actual winrate in 2012. It is also possibly that the quality of the games you play in has deteriorated significantly. Economic slowdowns -- and Greece has gone through more than just an economic slowdown -- do affect the quality of games.

If people are playing shorter, you may need to tighten up preflop. It could well be that you can play a hand like JTs profitably in a certain situation if you and your opponent are both deep stacked. But if the other player has a short stack, you may no longer be able to profitably play such a hand. Also, even if a situation remains profitable, the amount of profit can drop a lot when stacks get shorter. For example, a player raises, four people call and you have 44 in the BB. Even if most of the players are short stacked, it will usually still be profitable to call and try to flop a set. But it would have been a lot more profitable if your opponents were deep staked and willing to stack off with top pair or a draw when you flop your set.

You can't control how poorly your opponents play. If they were even remotely competent, the high rake structure of live poker would make the games impossible to beat. The best you can do is to make sure you adapt your game to exploit their mistakes as efficiently as possible. Feel free to post hands in this forum where you were unsure what to do or if you think in hindsight that you should have taken a different line than the one you actually did. Providing reads will, of course, lead to more helpful replies.

Well thanks to bart's podcasts and poker with your pants on i dont do a lot of mistakes at least preflop.
Checking my stats a little bit more i noticed something else that is probably ruining my profits for 2012.Last year most of my sessions where to club hotel casino resort at loutraki, which is right outside the sea 100km away from Athens.A lot of tourists come there especially the summer for vacation(it also has a 5 star hotel with pool, bar and its really luxurious) so most of them are there to have fun and they play with deeper stacks cause they got money to spend on their vacation.
This year it made most of my sessions in the casino right in the center of Athens which is infested with shortstackers and regular grinders..so probably its not such a good place to play.
So i might try getting the rest of my sessions in the casino i most money on and see if the results improve or not.By now the post is getting a bit ridiculus with me typing my thoughts so ill post a really fun hand from last night at 2-5(in the end it was kinda funny although i got angry with the cards preety bad)
Hero is btn with QQ with 1300 , villain A is utg and has 900(solid tag) and villain B is on the HJ with 350(kinda fishy player,he had like 1800 after winning a huge multiway pot but he went on lossing them anyway)
4 limpers and it gets to me, i open for 40 both villains call everyone else folds.
Pot:147
Flop comes like an absolute nightmare although i flop top set: QSpade JDiamond 9Spade
They both check i bet 95 to get called by a T or a Spade and random 2 pair.Vil 1 min-raises to 200 vil 2 folds. Not a good sign but there are a lot of draws which he might do it with, no reason to think my top set isnt good right now.A raise here given the stacks might be possible but i dont think im getting called by worse at this point if i 3bet vs this player.
Pot on the turn is 547 and the card that come is like a stab in the heart its the TSpade
he checks and im checking behind(inside me im cursing the casino, the dealer, the cards my luck while getting ready to muck my set on the river vs any bet)
River is the ASpade he checks i check and i win the pot!!!(he had pocket 9s for a set Poke Tongue)
Probably i would have gotten his entire stack on this hand if the cards were a bit diffirent but still i was happy to win the pot.
