hi there

a few days ago i played the following hand and wanted to ask for your opinion on my play there.

i got dealt 9Spade 9Club in early position in a rather passive game. blinds are 2/2 and i raised to 8. i got one caller directly to my left, who i considered to be quite aggressive and tricky.

the flop (20€)
7Spade 5Spade 2Club

i bet 12€, villain calls

turn (44€)
5Heart

i bet 28€, villain raises to 62€
after some thought i decided to call, because i rather saw him on a FD with overcards and him using a scarecard against me. i plan on calling most rivers that don´t complete the spade draw.

river (168€)
5Club

i check, villain bets 50€
i call, because all draws bricked, i don´t see him holding the case 5 or a better FH.

how would you play it?

Generally I would b/f the turn because most players I play with aren't capable of check raise bluffing the turn. Against a tricky player you could check back the turn to induce a river bluff. You're risking giving a free card to a player who could have many outs against your hand, but it keeps the pot smaller. I also think your line is fine given your read.

i can´t check back, because i am OOP, if i had been, i would have checked back most likely.

I think it's really read dependent here.

Is villain playing this way with a 7?
I'm not sure what 5x hands villain would call a raise and see a turn with, there's really no combos of pair+draw hands he could have.

The only other overpair you beat here is 8/8, and he might have flatted with a hands like 10s, or jacks (some live players will even just flat bigger pairs it's hard to say sometimes).

I'm thinking the turn raise looks kind of small (it's basically a minraise). I think trip 5s raise bigger because they're afraid of draws.
Given the turn raise, he makes a pretty small river bet. I think I have to call here getting 4:1.

thanks for thoughts.

it turned out, my read was correct. he had ASpade JSpade

his bet on the river was really strange. he should have suspected that i rivered a full house and i was going to call getting 4:1
