Game is 2/5 in my local casino.Hero's image is very laggy but generally really bad as i was down 3k for the weekend.Villain image is solid taggy but he is super call happy vs me as we played before and made some big moves&bluffs against him.The previous weekend villain stacked off ~150bb stack(700+ euros) on a Q T 8 when he called my shove with Q J vs my A K, i hit a K on the turn and scoop the pot.
On with the hand,
Hero(700) BB with 88
Villain(650) CO opens for 30 loose old guy(bad player) calls from the button i call from the BB as i believe i have a really good chance for his stack if i hit a set, 2 more limpers fold.
Flop(102):Q 9 8
I donk bet 45 villain raises to 110 old guy folds
Atm the pot is 267 and he got 510 behind, i decide to shove to rep some combo draw as i see his range to be QQ+,AQ+.
He tanks for ~30 sec and he calls, at showdown he shows QQ for top set.Obviously i would have stacked off anyway if some bricks hit on future streets or the board pairs but maybe i over played my hand?I cant ever see him having JT there as he would limped with that type of hand.
Thoughs?

Not shipping flop would be really really bad given your read that he can't have JT. Sick nitroll by him.

Would you mind discussion why you donk-bet the flop?

I donk betted for less than half pot thinking that my hand will look a lot like im trying to draw for cheap, also donk betting usually looks like bullshit a lot of the time.Basically what i was trying was to induce a raise by him.
I could have check-raised but that would have been a strong move and he wouldnt have called with hands like AK-TT-JJ and might have flatted with KK-AA-AQ.By donk betting i was sure he was gonna call with his week range and might try to float me on future streets if i checked on the turn(which i would have done if a brick fell ott).
That was my thoughts on the hand, flawed or not i dont think i could have escape from the hand unless some really bad turn cards like J,T or come.Btw meowjr i want to see you getting away from Set over Set on a wet flop 140bb deep, then post here and be ironic...

I like it. The donkbet is good because on a wet board like this if villain decides not to cb he and the fish get a free card. I actually initially thought you could probably make the donkbet a little bigger.

OP, I'm not sure what to make of this. I wasn't being sarcastic in my previous response. I think you played the hand well. I like you're donk bet OTF and your general thought process on the hand. You're only mistake in this thread is misinterepreting my response as leveling/sarcasm

I think you should have donk bet more like 75. On this wet of a board, I think you give up a lot of value with the smaller bet.
