First time playing with this guy and I've only been at the table a few minutes. Only hand I saw at showdown was someone bet flop and turn into him and checked the river in a limped pot on Q85r2A, and he overbet shoved all in like $100 into $60 with A8.

We are 150BB ($300) deep. He is in EP and limps, and 4 or 5 others limp after him. I complete the SB with J9o. Board comes AJJr. I check, as I figure anyone with an A will usually bet, and I can then x/r. And sometimes someone with air will stab if it's checked to them in late position, so I get some value from bluffs as well. I can see arguments for just betting as well, such as some of the EP players may check Ax to see what the players in front of them do, and having Ax check through sucks.

Anyway, I checked and it got checked through. Turn is a 9, giving me a boat. I bet $20, and villain in EP calls me, everyone else folds. River is a brick and I bet $35. He raises and makes it $110 on top so $145 total, leaving himself like $135 behind.

Is this a bare Jx enough and does he call a shove with a bare Jx enough to make this a value shove? Or do I just flat call here?

I think fish man has AA or AJ here often. Seems so suicidal for such a huge raise with qj of kj. did the turn complete the rainbow?

I can't remember if it completed the rainbow or not.

He already showed that he's willing to be very aggressive w/ a non-nut 2 pair (overbetting in live poker is rare so we can definitely peg him as very aggro). For that reason, I think he can definitely raise worse here and I don't expect him to ever fold Jx so I shove. We'll run into better hands sometimes, but there's also KJ, QJ, JT, J8, Jxs where x is very wide, 99, etc. If we never get called by worse when we bet, then we're not valuebetting enough.

You mean then we're not bluffing enough, right? True, but this isn't really a spot where I would ever be bluffing 3betting the river.

No, I mean valuebetting thinly. Sometimes we have to valuetown ourselves or we're not valuebetting thinly enough.

ahh then you meant to say if we never get called by "better" when we bet, not "worse."
