I'm looking in general at flop spots where I am out of position with mid pair, or a pocket pair higher than the mid card but lower than the top card on the flop. I'm trying to work out when it is better to c/r to take control of the hand and stop villain taking a free card when we are ahead, and when its better to play more passively. The problem with the c/r is that we can often be in an awkward spot when we get raised on the turn, but in some situations it does get more value.
I'm fairly sure I made a complete mess of this one, so I'm interested in comments on the hand as well as the general query.
In this hand its my flop c/r and river raise/call that I am particularly asking about.

Id just be c/c every street and cr improvement.
Monotone boards you can be pretty passive oop with a decent chunk of your range, because you are going to have to be.
Id c/r this flop if i had Ks9x but your equity isnt that great that we want to be jamming bets in on this flop

Yeah like the others i agree with playing this one passive unless we improve. Its not like we have great equity against anything, and theres not that many cards we really like on the turn. And most likely, we`ll get to cr if we improve on the turn anyway since people 2barrel too much anyway.

I agree with others. Given your marginal equity edge on the flop, the tough spots you may be put into on the turn, and the reasonable potential for your opponent to bet the turn and rivers as bluffs since he may just put you on a spade draw and thinks he needs to fire the last shot. He could also V bet worse for you.

Thanks everyone I have less equity than I thought on this flop - less than 50% against a 30% CO opening range it seems.
If I change the flop to Js 9d 5h this shoots up to nearly 60% - so I should c/r the rainbow flop in this situation? Obviously he has a fair few hands he could semibluff on the turn, such as KQ, KT etc....
