So another play that has been came up quite a bit this weekend. I'm wondering if the standard play here is to call or raise?

The hand is with a complete unknown. He said hes from colorado and only plays 2-5NL. So far has been pretty tagish. This is an 8/16 live game by the way.

Anyway.

I open raise AHeartJDiamondfrom the cutoff, Button calls, Sb folds, BB(villain) Calls. 3.5 bb

flips

ADiamond-qClub-2 Spade

check Bet fold call 4 b.b

Turns ASpade

check bet call. 6 b.b

River 4Heart

BB donks, I call. 8b.b

Yeah, I think this is missing value. He could easily be doing this with a hand like KQ or a weaker Ace intending to call a raise.

I raise the river for value. He's basically repping 44 or a hand that's taking a pot control line. I think A4 and 53 are reasonably unlikely.

I also think NL players are much more likely to take a pot control line in LHE? This is just a hunch.

Meh, i thought he was pretty much only repping a4 and that was about it. Why do you rule that hand out? Thats the only one I could put him on at the time haha

I feel like he probably puts more action in on turn with most of his Ax, so I'm discounting it some. Also, he might C/R the river with A4/44/53 (something I forgot about in my first response).

Pretty sure I'd raise here. If we get 3bet that sucks but I don't think that happens enough to warrant a flat.

Pretty sure I just froze up at game speed. Do you play a9 the same here?

Definitely raise A9, I'm thinking somewhere around A5 might be my borderline hand w/o more to go on.

I'd raise A9 but wouldn't raise A8.

Raise his eyeballs, what are you losing to? Don't you think if he had a monster he is check raising the river? If he puts you on an A he can beat then he knows you aren't checking behind.
