$10-20 King high calls river donk
This hand came up the other day ... in a full ring game, vs a site regular.
Just wanting to see if anyone has an opion on this hand, I thought there was justification in calling the river with my holdings
Villian is an average decent player, though I have seen him make some pretty terrible flop calls in 3way unraised pots with one non ace overcard ... and also has open limped in LP with a tight BB
I haven't really noticed bluffing tendency
sorry, I don't remember the suites exactly (but texture is the same as listed)
PRE FLOP Hero is CO w K
9x
Hero open raises and is called by big blind
FLOP A
5
4:club"
I bet and am called
TURN 5:club"
thought about checking but thought I still had some chance of begin ahead, and so didn't want to give up on the hand
villian knows I don't need an Ace on the flop to bet, and also knows I don't need an ace to bet the turn ...
River A:spade"
he donks ... I pause and called
TURN 5![]()
thought about checking but thought I still had some chance of begin ahead, and so didn't want to give up on the hand
villian knows I don't need an Ace on the flop to bet, and also knows I don't need an ace to bet the turn ...
Just because you check the turn doesn't mean you are "giving up on the hand". You can check behind to induce a river bluff if you think you have "some chance of being ahead" but not enough hand to be happy to get called (a typical value bet). This hand to me is a standard spot to check turn and call river given your read and the board texture.

thanks for the reply DD.
I was trying to go over in my head what was better ... check to induce, or bet for value (I think what got me to bet was I wasn't too sure of this fellows bluffing capacity).
Looking back, I do think you are correct (if I'm calling the river anyways) ... hehe - you sure King high isn't valuetown time?
