Terp

I'm an old vet by this industry's standards, but I still go to battle daily.

I started playing summer 2004 in my third year of undergrad. Fascinated, but clueless, I watched with amazement when people actually had a guess what others had. I began reading and pestering more knowledgeable players with endless questioning. I bounced around home games, including a local $1/2NL game in College Park, MD and was an online regular by January 2006. I never had to reload that initial $150 my roommate lent me to play $50NL. Some would argue I still am running hot!

Today I play modest volume at $200 and $400NL 6max and Full Ring and occasionally stoke a masochistic PLO habit. My three-plus years of coaching should convey how much I like teaching, and I look forward to teaching English literature at the High School or University level within a few years.

I coach people who play on pretty much the range of sites, so I am very familiar with how games play everywhere. At any time, I'm working with three or four players and I've worked with many dozen at this point. Witnessing students' progress and knowing I had a central role is incredibly gratifying and why I do this. Players will tell you that I've helped them *think* about poker better - the playing follows and improves.

You have a lot of choices in coaches today, but I stand out from the crowd through superior observation and analysis. I excel at quickly recognizing player tendencies and types and developing effective counter strategies. As I like to joke, it's not enough to just recognize your opponents are terrible - you need to recognize how they are terrible. Is my opponent the kind of donk to stick his finger in pencil sharpeners, sniff glue or eat fallen paint chips? Empty labels like "tag" and "fish" tell us little about how our opponents play and can lull our observational abilities into complacency and lead us to poor decisions.

I won't teach you to how to play a set way, but I will teach you how to think. I'll teach you to develop reads and to think logically, not emotionally. I'll make sure you learn to ask the right questions and not only seek the right answers. I'll watch and listen and hone your thought process with you.

"I've been coached by Terp on and off for a couple of years. Like some of you, I've had moderate success at the smaller stakes, but I needed some guidance to advance my game.

Terp can be of great help if you're struggling to crush SSNL or if you intend to move up to the midstakes. One of his greatest strengths is his ability to discover the root causes of your problems. He is adept at pointing out your main weaknesses, in addition to your ancillary ones that quickly become apparent. Obviously, this is beneficial to your game as your weak spots are being lifted more or less simultaneously. Terp accomplishes this by asking specific questions and then using his wealth of experience and poker knowledge to provide you with sound and easy to implement solutions.

Another one of Terp's strengths is his ability to communicate, often humorously without sacrificing the validity and clarity of the answers. He is very skilled at deducing the right plays based on the presented variables on the fly, so it often seems like he has already thought about every question you throw at him. All in all, Terp's a great player and coach, and he'll teach you how to think and play like a winner!"-Kav C

" I was a marginal winner at 100NL for well over a year, grinding out a very small winrate and scraping together the occasional tiny withdrawl. I'd failed several shots at 200NL, and despite my efforts to self-improve through forums and training videos, I just didn't feel like I was significantly improving my game in any meaningful way. Obtaining coaching from Terp was without a doubt the overwhelming factor in allowing me to finally make significant progress in SSNL. Simply put, he overhauled the way I thought about poker, and did so in an approachable, easy to understand fashion. He also made himself available for questions and showed a genuine interest in my success and development as a player. My only regret is that I didn't obtain his services a year earlier!"-corpsebean
