I am a third-year law student paying for school with poker winnings, but I wasn't always so fortunate. I waded into poker like many others, playing in $5 games in dorm rooms and being fairly clueless about what to do. I pretty much never won. I could see that skill played a big role in the outcome, but I was lost with how to advance.

Despite the discovery of multitabling and the introduction of a lot of math into my game, I played a very basic game without a lot of complex thinking about what my opponents were thinking and so on. Enter six-max, May 2006. It was crazy! Everyone was constantly raising and going all-in! Did they always have sets? What was this? I broke even and struggled mightily for a month or so, and then something finally clicked and I began to think deeply about every spot, about every holding and about every possibility. Things took off. I made close to 100 buyins that summer before I finally began moving up levels. I love shorthanded poker and play anywhere from heads-up to six-handed on a mostly daily basis. I've since played anywhere from 100 NL to 600 NL with any regularity since then and occasionally dabble in PLO.

" I was a marginal winner at 100NL for well over a year, grinding out a very small winrate and scraping together the occasional tiny withdrawl. I'd failed several shots at 200NL, and despite my efforts to self-improve through forums and training videos, I just didn't feel like I was significantly improving my game in any meaningful way. Obtaining coaching from Terp was without a doubt the overwhelming factor in allowing me to finally make significant progress in SSNL. Simply put, he overhauled the way I thought about poker, and did so in an approachable, easy to understand fashion. He also made himself available for questions and showed a genuine interest in my success and development as a player. My only regret is that I didn't obtain his services a year earlier!"-corpsebean

Two-Way Bets

by terp, May 12th

In their conventional meaning, two-way bets are an irrational fiction.  Let me define that meaning for those who have not touched the topic: Two-way bet: a bet that in one instance wi...
