INTRO

My name is Jared Kenworthy. I was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1981 but grew up in small town outside of Kansas City, Missouri. Despite being very successful in school, I played a number of sports as a youngster including ice hockey, baseball, and basketball. I found my favorite sport in golf around age 15. By the time I turned 18, I won the 3A Missouri State Championship in Golf. Our local golf pro quickly nicknamed me jk3a (Jared Kenworthy 3A State Champ). I hated the nickname for many years as I tried to maintain a certain level of modesty but when it came time to pick a poker screen name, it was the first one I thought of.

I was able to parlay my golf success into a spot on a division II golf team at The University of Central Missouri(formerly CMSU). While there, I obtained my bachelors in Computer Science/Mathematics and got a minor in Accounting. Not wanting to be stuck in a cubical, I took my first job out of college as an assistant golf pro at a local country club in the Spring of 2005. One of the main attractions of the golf business for me was the ability to teach. I’ve always found myself attracted to and very good at teaching throughout my life. It has manifested itself with school, advice for friends, golf, and now poker.

Starting in July of 2007 I quit my job as a golf pro and started playing 200nl 6max full time with about a 20k bankroll. With the assistance of Deucescracked EP Aaron (WiltOnTilt) Wilt in early 08 I was able to move up to 2/4 and do very well. By the summer of 08 I joined the DC team as a Coach. In the fall of 2008 I started playing Heads Up as my primary game and played as high as 5/10. Today I play a mixture of 6max and HU up to 5/10 and the occasional MTT. Depending on how much golf and coaching I’m doing, I play approximately 15-30k hands a month. I have two different ‘career’ graphs to share. The first one includes my stars hands from July 07 – Oct 08 that I had to dig out of pokertracker and transfer them into HEM. The second one is Oct 08 – Dec 2010. 2007-2008 or 2008-2010

COACHING CAREER/VIDEOS

I’ve coached over 50 students in the last few years ranging in stakes from 50nl to 10/20. I currently coach for both 6max and HU for small and mid stakes. My rate is $250/session. Each session lasts ~75min. The first session with me is a bit unique in that I ask the student to prepare 6-10 recent trouble hands with reads/questions/etc… and email them to me ahead of time. During this first session we discuss those hands, do an overview of their HEM stats, and a brief get to know you discussion. All lessons after that are review based and include video review, marked hands review, HEM filter analysis, general HEM review, and theory discussion. Below you’ll find some testimonials from former and current students

“Over a year and half of coaching, Jared 'jk3a' Kenworthy took me from 50nl to 200nl through his expert analysis and keen poker mind. He was consistently available to help me with tough hand analysis, leak finding, and encouragement through downswings. Never one to sugarcoat the truth, jk3a was a good enough coach to challenge me to improve by always telling me with I needed to hear, not necessarily what I wanted to hear. He will deny this, but I have no doubt that he is a significant reason that I have enjoyed the success in poker that I have. “ -Linkwood(DC Coach)

“Jared has a unique coaching style that not only forces you to think about the game on a deep level, but also proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he knows what he is talking about. After working with Jared for only a few months, my game is at an all time high, and is only getting better with each lesson. If you feel like your game has plateaued, or are stuck in a rut, I have full confidence that a few sessions with Jared will have you back crushing the game in no time.” -rcmastermind

If you’re considering taking coaching from me I’d highly encourage you to watch several of my videos prior to see if you like my teaching ‘style.’ I coached the famous TecmoSuperBowl in “MoneyTrain To MidStakesVille” and did some serious range analysis with WOT in “Where the Buffalo Roam” and “Showdown at Buffalo Ridge.”

POKER CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

In 2008 I was able to clear the 100k earnings mark for the first time. While this was very enjoyable, it was also very depressing the next April when taxes were due. In October of 2010 I had a 2nd place finish at the WSOP Circuit Main Event in Chicago for a smooth $180k. And my favorite highlight of them all, I haven’t had a real job since July 2007.
