I began getting serious about poker in 2005 when a couple of my friends and I started realizing how much money could be made in the sit ‘n go’s on Party Poker. I beat the $50 and $100 sngs on Party for a good clip through late 2006 when they stopped doing business w/ U.S. players. I then started playing the sngs on Pokerstars and maintained about an 8% ROI there as well. In February of 2008 I had my first big MTT score and decided it would be a good opportunity to invest in learning how to play cash games. It’s something I had considered doing for some time, and I had heard what a great earning potential there was.
Hiring NoahSD for coaching was the greatest financial decision I’ve ever made. He totally opened my eyes to learning how to think about poker, and to examine every hand individually and objectively. I worked with Noah regularly for about a year. I learned a ton from him, and I feel like I am able to pass on a lot of this knowledge to my students.
I currently play the NL 6max games ranging from 5/10 to 25/50 and have had a lot of success. Over the past 6 months or so I've been getting in about 15k hands per month. The majority of my hands have been at 5/10, where I've maintained a winrate of 12bb/100 over my last 80k hands! Here is a graph of my results for the last 2 years and $5/10 NLHE specifically
I've made about a dozen instructional videos for DC so far. In my 8 part series "Raging Bull" I collaborated w/ fellow DC coach and HU specialist, Syous. Syous and I explored the challenges of transitioning from HUNL to 6max NL, and I think the series was very well received. I also did two video reviews w/ FoxwoodsFiend where I played stakes ranging from 10/20 to 40/80nl, which contained lots of interesting hands and was full of educational content.
I had always toyed with the idea of being a teacher. I took some education classes off and on throughout college, but I ended up settling on a BA in economics. However, I still have a passion for teaching others, and now that I have an expertise in poker, I’m really enjoying passing that knowledge onto my students. I take a lot of pride in what I do. I thoroughly enjoy seeing my students learn, and I feel very personally invested in their development and success.
“When I first started getting poker advice from Mike, my game improved instantly. He is very accurate at assigning hand ranges to opponents and picking the best action to make the most money versus that hand range. He gets the student involved by asking him questions and making him verbalize his thoughts. His coaching style is intense, but not too intense which makes it a comfortable and effective coaching experience.†-Mike Fiorelli
"Mike was one of my earliest students. Even though he was an MTT player who just dabbled in low stakes cash, it was immediately clear that he had a great mind for figuring out the game and that he was determined to do so. It's no surprise to me that now, about two years later, he's owning at mid/high-stakes.
I always enjoy talking poker with him, and he's become one of my favorite people to ask for advice on my own game. I definitely recommend him to anyone who's interested in learning how to properly think about NLHE. -NoahSD
"When discussing hands, Mike mechanistically breaks them down and hence, rarely misses key details. He isn't hurried to come up with a half-baked solution. He possesses an uncommon degree of patience and sense of humility amongst high-stakes pros which is evident in his objective analyses and self-criticism." -mikej
"Mike is great at explaining his thought process, so you not only learn what plays are profitable but how to assess a play on your own. He's always down to discuss to hands and he comes up with advice I wouldn't have thought of myself. Mike is funny, down-to-earth, helpful and a great coach." -DC member, SpewKid
