My name is Patrick Magee, I live in Ireland and I play poker semi-professionally (I also run an electronic design and repair business).

I have been playing poker for four years and my main game is NLHE $1/$2 both full ring and short handed. I started with a couple of $50 deposits back in 2006 and on the third attempt I built a bankroll and have been studying the game ever since. I really enjoy the theoretical side of poker and I spend a lot of time looking at the mathematical aspects of holdem. I got into coaching around late 2007 and I love talking about the game with anyone who will listen.

I'm known as “Sounded Simple” on Deuces Cracked and 2+2, I play on Full Tilt Poker as "asdf1234567", on Pokerstars as “SSimple” and at the Ongame Network as “bookaboo”. Here a graph of my last 282K hands.

Math Based Poker Coaching

I offer a different approach to poker learning than most other coaches. I don't generally offer sweat sessions or video reviews, instead I take a more detailed and analytical approach to individual situations that come up in poker.

Most of my coaching is not one on one, I prepare written answers or videos for students. This makes it easier for me to organize my coaching time and gives the student material that they themselves can analyze and review until they fully understand the concept.

My coaching falls into two broad categories

(A)Detailed Hand Analysis

Open up any poker forum and read the replies to HH posts. 90% of these answers will be well meaning but generic over-simplified advice. Often it's correct advice but those reading probably won't absorb it fully or in the correct context because no one has actually broken the hand down into hand ranges and equities.

I take hands and fully analyze them. Giving you a breakdown of ranges, equities, alternative lines and what to do if variables (such as stack sizes or opponent types) change. The student will receive either a written report or a video explaining the analysis, I will also answer any clarification questions on either Skype or email.

The key point of this service is that you see the process rather than just the result, this should help you learn how to breakdown HH yourself.

Detailed HH Analysis up to 50NL = $15.00 per hand

Detailed HH 100NL and above = $20.00 per hand

Students may submit as many HH as they wish, reports are usually available in 24-48Hrs. Reports will be in pdf, word or excel. Videos will be in .avi format.

Mathematical Situation Analysis

There are literally thousands of situations in NLHE that can still be analyzed. Basically any situation that you are not 100% sure of the correct action is worthy of further study. For example if you want to know what range you can 4-bet all in that 40bb ratholer, you're wondering how often you best to exploit a particular opponent or your not sure whether to fire the second barrel or check back that draw I can help solve these situations.

The cost for this service is $75 per hour, total cost will be agreed before commencement. Lead time for reports will depend on complexity but will be confirmed prior to commencement. Reports will be in pdf, word or excel. Videos will be in .avi format.
