I have been playing semi-professionally for 4 years now and have coached dozens of players. I have also been coached myself by many reputable players and coaches. I have been mainly focusing on PLO recently and feel competent enough to coach both SSPLO and NLHE. I currently play 1/2NL and PLO and have played up to 5/10NL in the past. Though I don't quite get in as many hands as I'd like, I try to log 10,000-15,000 hands a month. My focus in playing and teaching is a primarily a psychological one- How can we gauge our opponent's actions and reasoning through hand reading?
I know that my FTP PTR is losing right now. Much of this was accounted in a large downswing I had 1.5 years ago.
I didn't play well and ran sub par. Shortly after this I took up PLO, which PTR did not track for some time. I won about $35,000 before hitting a massive downswing late in 2009 (where I lost about $15,000).
That said, I did have a fair amount of success on smaller sites. Here.
I currently have 3 active students and many others who do checkups every few weeks. My current sessions are geared towards micro players looking to make the jump into SSNL+...that is, 50NL-200NL players. I typically do hand history review, as I feel it is the most effective to target specific leaks. General live sweat is fine, but very hit or miss at times. Video recording review is also very effective and recommended (albeit some work). Sessions usually go an hour or so, sometimes a tad over.
"As someone who has both played against Dave, talked with him, and followed his strategy posts over the past 3 years, I can tell you without a doubt that he would be a great coach. His creativity, aggressiveness and knowledge of poker will not only greatly improve the results you will have, but enable you to think around any situation that you may come across." -Wes
"plenty of capable, qualified poker minds are available in the coaching market, but dave stands out with his great imagination and creativity" -terp
The student I worked the most with; his results are not purely because of me (other coaches can help take credit for his fantastic results), but I was the first to take said player from a breakeven player at 50NL (over 3 years of play) to a crushing 2/4NL player: Shown Here
"I did several HH review sessions with Orange and I was impressed with his insight and the quality of his advice. After our sessions, I found myself being more disciplined in making tough laydowns in the right spots because of Dave's honesty, patching up a leak that earlier was shaving bbs off my winrate. I was also grateful that Dave was willing to analyze a few additional hands in between our sessions free of charge. His detailed analysis was very helpful. " -Mike and his graph
