I'll admit it. I discovered poker—the kind where you don't pass the queen and deuces aren't wild—during the "poker boom". 'Rounders' was my favorite movie, and I watched every ESPN WSOP episode I could get my hands on. That was when I began playing limit hold 'em for very small stakes in my father's home game. At the same time, I discovered the 2+2 limit hold 'em books and website. Immediately, I was drawn to the strategic considerations of street by street play. I loved that no decision was based entirely on the strength of your own hand, that such a game that seemed so simple had so many complex permutations.

Eventually I began playing limit hold 'em online at small stakes full ring and basically treaded water with a few tournament scores interspersed. Finally, I discovered short handed and heads up play and, with a lot of study, began to win, making a small side income playing 20$ and 50$ sit n goes while I was in grad school.

Once I graduated with a Masters in Poetry Writing at the beginning of 2008 I began to play full time, jumping into cash games and moving quickly from the 2/4 level up to 30/60, which is the top level I play now. I'm always working to improve my play and become a more adaptable, fluid HULHE player. I've also begun working on my 3 and 4 handed play.

I'll adapt a course of study for each of my students based on their needs. These courses may consist of sweat sessions, hand history reviews, and quizzes depending on what works for each student. I feel as though my coaching will be especially useful to players ranging from the HUHU (heads up on a heads up table) novice to the player trying to break into mid stakes. More than that, though, I'm looking for students who are willing to question both my assumptions and their own, who love to think and talk about the game, and who are interested in understanding it on an ever deepening level.
