Peter Knudsen, 31 years old living in Copenhagen, Denmark. With the help of LHE books published by 2+2, the Short handed Small stakes forum at 2+2 and coaching by DeathDonkey I made my way from 0.5/1 SH LHE in june 06 to the mid stakes at Party Poker by the summer of 2007. I now play anything from 10/20 to 30/60 trying to support my attempt to finish my PhD thesis in (applied) Game theory at the University of Copenhagen.
From personal experience I have learned that the stylized 2+2 TAG style is arguably suboptimal at today's mid stakes and making the jump from 2/4 to 15/30 will probably require a looser and more SD bound style to avoid getting run over. My coaching will thus not be targeted at players already beating 10/20 but at 24/17 small stakes grinders who wish to make the jump out of the rake trap. As a result my coaching will be cheaper relative to more experienced coaches who target players already beating mid to high stakes.
More specifically the focus of my coaching will be on:
- Game selection: At mid stakes there will be fewer fish compared to small stakes. At what games and in what positions at a given game can we expect to win money.
- Preflop play: What hands will a LAG play that a TAG folds. How do table conditions affect this regarding opening ranges, 3-betting ranges, ranges in the blinds. How do the presence of bad players in the pot (or lack there of) affect our decisions to 3-bet or even coldcall in non blind positions and how much to call in the blinds.
- Playing LAGs OOP: A notable difference in small stakes and mid stakes is the increased amount of LAGs. How do we treat these players when OOP. In particular how do we handle the increased frequency of getting 3-bet PF, raised and floated on the flop, getting value bet marginally and getting 3-barreled loosely.
- Image: When loosening up your preflop ranges you will attain a loose and sometimes bad image. The next step is to utilize this and adjust to it. Furthermore how can such an image be cultivated by making suboptimal plays at a cheap price. Manipulating multi-tabling TAGs and LAGTAGs to give excessive action and calling down too much is a major component of the increased EV by LAGging up your style.
