Alex started his poker career playing 5 and 10 dollar home game tournaments and cash games. Throughout high school, he worked hard to improve what he thought was a winning poker game, through reading books and getting in hands. When college arrived, Alex went up to Albany, NY and found Turning Stone casino where his first poker epiphany happened. Having never played a game for over 20 dollars, Alex saw 2005 World Series of Poker final table finisher and long time cash game grinder Al Krux sitting shorthanded 10/20 NL uncapped. Alex sat with the 1,000 dollars he had to his name, and after luckboxing 2.5x his net worth, realized he had a lot to learn.
After transferring back home to the University of Maryland, Alex compounded his game selection woes by busting his Pokerstars account, trying to qualify for the 2005 EPT-PCA event. With $2.87 left in his account, he found the 2+2 forums after talking to some friends of his, and decided to learn this game the right way. He started out playing penny 7 card stud games, and after religiously reading 2+2, started playing 5.50 STT's. Today, he plays STT's through the 100 dollar buy in levels, and has incorporated mid and high buy in MTT and mid stakes cash game play into his regiment, as he feels that it keeps him a balanced teacher and student of the game. He has devoted much of his time on 2+2 over the last three years to studying tournaments, both discussing his own play and analyzing hands with some of the world's best single table tournament players. Alex is the moderator of the single table tournament forum on 2+2.
Alex spent the 2007 World Series on site in Las Vegas, crushing MSNL cash games around the WSOP, where he lived with 2+2ers and had his most recent poker epiphany. Being constantly indulged in the game's thought processes by the world's best players (our very own Krantz and RBK among them), Alex realized that his poker playing was successful because he finally learned how to learn. He has taken this idea to his tournament coaching, and believes that an understanding of how things work together and impact each other is crucial for learning how to think in poker and focus on the "big picture".
Alex offers a wide array of coaching methods and services for his tournament coaching, but he believes that 1 on 1 coaching is the most efficient method for developing a thorough understanding of the game. Services such as sweating, email analysis and other miscellaneous coaching methods are offered on a case by case basis.
