Closing out January
Well it’s been an extremley busy month overall for myself. I started out with a decent score of just under 10k in the stars 40k and was hoping to translate that directly into some bigger and better scores. I think I played one Sunday worth of tournaments with no results and thats it for tournaments since. On the 9th I was off to the Bahamas, not for the PCA but for vacation with my GF and her family which was nice to get away and see some sun compared to the Boston snow for now. I spent 7 days out there at the hotel Breezes and was able to stop by Atlantis to check in on the High Roller Event and see how things were run there. I plan on being down there for that series next year because a bunch of the events looked great.
Anyways after I got back in I spent a day or two in Boston with friends before I headed up to Turning Stone Casino in NY for a small series they were running up there. I planed on playing 4 events… A $250 bounty, 500 6max, 1k main, and 200 turbo. I bricked the first three in pretty quick fashion, not much I could do really for any of them except the 6max where I was the 3rd one out and busted too light with A10o with a crazy table dynamic. It is what it is… a learning experience every time. In the 1k I came up with a very interesting hand that I asked a few friends about and still haven’t been persuaded either way yet.
Reads are that there are two kids I recognize from the start, one that ftd the 6max the day prior and one I remember from foxwoods who I believe was very solid. Anyways kid 1 opens to 225 at 50/100 utg+2 , kid 2 flats behind, folds around to me in bb with AQcc I flat. Flop comes QsJs4d… I end up leading 350 after a little deliberation, kid 1 folds quickly, kid 2 thinks for 20 seconds and makes it 1050. I started 7500ish start of the hand 10k original stacks, he was similar. Flat/4bet/fold… Folding isnt an option because I would check call if i was going to fold to a flop raise so that makes it raise or call. I end up flatting because I truly believe he’s slowing down on almost every turn here because I look so strong at this point. Turn 4 h QJ44 at this point. I check he makes it 1800 leaving 5200 left. What? I don’t tank too much live but I did for about a minute or two here and ended up folding saying we could have the same hand but decide to fold. He says good fold and sheepishly throws the winner in the muck as I fold face up. I dont think he has air ever and can’t see any worse value hands or potential value hands for the river like k10s ajs etc betting a paired turn that heavy. Could be a mistake, and seems like most I’ve talkd with don’t like a fold but it still seemd ok to me.
I ended up busting after a small roller coaster of coming back gaining cl at the tbl then losing back to back races to out quickly.
Cash was just awful the first 3 days, I usually can cruise back my buyins at 2/5 but noting was working till the last night where after not even planning to play, I talked with a friend and motivated myself to play. Good decision at least as I was able to make just under 4k that night just at 2/5. If not for bricking a Q10cc on a AJc6c board late it would have beenmy best night at 2/5 at over 6k on the tbl. I ended up breaking even on the trip, slightly down from hotel expenses. I was playing 12 hour+ days each day there, came back home and played a full day of tournaments which didn’t go well online so decided to clean up the apt, do laundry, and relax yesterday. I met a friend in downtown Boston in the early aft to play pool and ran into the entire Boston Bruins team on a bowling trip there, looked like team bonding since they are on a 5 game losing streak and getting eaten alive in the boston media. It was pretty cool though. I ended my night watching BC beat clemson and watched a rare movie late night, Watchmen. It was ok, long and nothing special but cool effects, just dragged on forever late. Anyways today I plan on putting in a good size cash session on stars and a little UB, going to the gym, and tournaments tonight. Hope everyone is doing well!
note: Also need to book my trip to LA for the LAPC by tomorrow night so getting that done is key too. Have a good day everyone…
