November 9 eh
I assume your only reading this blog if you know the winner of the 2010 WSOP was crowned last night... Jonathan Duhamel came out victorious last night over John Racener in a pretty easy HU victory holding a massive chip advantage the entire time. Watching the match hu just a small reminder of why I will continue to push to play these WSOP events each year hopefully and break through with a bracelet victory in the coming years. I was lucky enough to experience a 4th place finish and the incredible ride that comes along with coming that close to a bracelet in my first year and watching the FT yest brought back memories like it was yesterday. Pretty awesome to play for that much money in the game/competition/sport I love playing and do for a profession. I feel lucky. I have great family, friends, and have a job that I love and have since I started this ride. I have the ability to be as flexible with my schedule as I would like for the most part, and though this year hasn't gone financially how I would have liked I think I've made a lot of progess with myself and poker game which was definitely a big goal I had at the beginning of this year. I wont go onto a huge explanation of this now, ill save it for one of my last posts of 2010, but I feel very confident about how I need to approach the game mentally which is something i've been searching for balance wise since I began playing. It might not be ideal, but for now I'll trust myself and try to finish the year strong with the mentality i've developed.
In the last 30 days or so I have stayed pretty busy poker wise. I was down at Foxwoods for the WPT prelims up till the main which was out of reach this time around. The trip was very unproductive poker wise as have been many of my live experiences this year unlike last where all i basically saw was success.  It is a great learning experience, showing me a better example of the variance associated with playing larger buyins and what balance I am going to need money wise to play these events, cash games, and balance the total funds needed to go on these type of trips yearly. I have a much better idea about it playing on my own money as well compared to being backed for these trips last year. The goal is to stay unbacked but to truly continue playing a few live circuit series a year I am going to have to push myself harder to be more successufl online where I spend the majority of my time. I have definitely battled with this the last 2-3 months after the WSOP so hopefully things come to fruition the rest of 2010.
I've also come to the conclusion that i've let myself go physically enough and decided to get in better shape as long as my back holds up during the process. I'm not out of shape by any means, and play in a mens hockey league weekly still, but that is not where I would like to be by any means. The advantages of getting in better shape are clear to most, helps the body physically, mentally, and makes you feel better in general. It takes much more motivation than even I have thought trying in the past, but when your office is in the next room over from the living room, it is extremely easy to slip and miss a workout. I don't have a specific workout routine in order yet, but would like to finish 2010 with a similar work ethic in comparison to poker.Â
Hopefully next time I post again things will be on the up and up. Best of luck all.
Glenn
