What a Ride: WSOP 2009

Finally an update! Hahaha, well finally I actually have my own laptop to use everyday out here. My old one just refused to work from the moment I got out here meh. I had my laptop shipped out here from my home, and feel a 100x better with a new one compared to my old school one that lasted me through college. Technology passed me by on that one :p Anyways its a new Studio 17in laptop, and it seems pretty great so far. So far in my few weeks here, i’ve really struggled to find time between waking up around 10:30/11am heading to the Rio or Venetian for their 12 pm tournies. I have spent a good amount of my time there during my days out here and usually head back late night after busting out or grinding cash for hours. How have I been doing??? Event 24 pretty much has summed up my experience here so far.

The 1500$ NL event was the ride of my poker career so far and really just had it going from the first hand I played. My first double of the tournament came in level two when a weak player opened to 250 at 50/100, I defended on a 4kish stack in mid position and smiled to see a 579 flop. He led 250 on the turn and I made it 725. He flats and the turn comes the As, he leads 1300 I make it 3800 he calls. River is a blank as I jam my last 400 in he calls with AJ ship the double and just went from there chipping up probably the best I have in a long time. I ended day 1 as chip leader of the entire event at 187k, it was pretty exciting. Day 2 was probably the hardest day of poker i’ve ever played in my career so far. I started right where I left off chipping up to 300k+ early. Then variance caught up to me and table changed me 3 times in an hour, eventually landing me at Andy Seth’s (Bkice) table. From there it turned into a long day of poker. I played a wild hand where he folded 10s on a A 10 7 3 10 to my river on a 20k lead 3bet to 64k and shove of 180k over his 3bet. P5s live had some good reporting on it, if I explained it the wrong way lol. Anyways I fell to around 170k at one point after a bunch of hands that looked like the end of my run possibly. I played a pretty solid 20bb stack for probably 5 hours it was a grind going from CL to that. But it paid off at the end of the night. AQ>qjo in a big spot to get chips near final 2 tables followed by winning AQ>99 vs MrCasino. Overall it was a fun but very draining day mentally to make it to day 3 after starting as chip leader with 272 to start the day. Day 3 I went in as 7th of 25 or something ok. I played a kind of aggro bubble with a good table draw, and won a big hand with 88 vs aq on the bubble of the FT. It was a great experience and personal accomplish my first WSOP final table. After playing for over a year full time its pretty nice to accomplish something you’d always wanted to. The final table was a blast, all the roomates and my friends playing poker out here showed up and it was just a really cool experience to play in front of friends and family while my cheering section got sauced on the side haha. I ran really card dead, played well, and ended up finishing in 4th for around 176k. I finished 19th in a 1k Venetian earlier in the trip after having cl with 35 left which was frustating but thats all in the past now. Poker is good right now, I’m playing 5/10nl with no worries and basically all the MTTs the rest of my time in Vegas.

I’ve met a lot of really good guys out here that we all know from online which has been really cool. Right after my score my gf Hillary came out for the week. My buddy EJ also met up with us at the house too and stayed for a few days as well. It was a crowded housee for the week but it was a lot of fun. Just trying to take in the experience when I look back is going to be amazing. My gf, friend and I all turned into tourists for the week checking out the strip, drinking, swiming in our pool at the house, bbqing, and going to the clubs at night. It was a pretty crazy week, but definitley a good first time in experience out in Vegas :) EJ left on thursday, while me and my girl enjoyed an awesome night at a club called TAO at the Venetian. My uncle helped me out with the reservations and it was a really fun time even though I payed for it the next morning. About as hungover as i’ve been in a while haha. Hillary left Saturday night and is back hard at work in grad school, while working back home in Boston. I’m back to poker reality again grinding it out with the roomates every day. Everyone is running pretty cold out here tourny wise but theres still plenty of time to pick up some big scores.

We did a huge cleanup, went grocery shopping, played bball, cooled down in the pool and am back playing some mtts tonight. I’m going to try to workout tomorrow before I play 5/10 cash tomorrow then put in a good session before the 2500$ mixed event on Wednesday. Hope that comes close to summing up my trip so far i’m sure i’ll have a lot more to write about soon. Hopefully I can get into a good routine writing these daily, I just need to put some thoughts down even if it isn’t a huge thing about the day. Onto some more MTTS for the night, hopefully I can bring some of this live success online :) – Glenn
