Coaching for my MIND
I just wrote a long blog post and it got deleted, yes, awesome.
Cliffs: I've hired Jared Tendler who is known amongst the poker community as a mental game coach. Â I've been doing pretty well this year but my heart and face do not reflect that. Â I think I might dread playing these days as I have gone through some pretty ridiculous swings. If Jared can improve how frequently I play my A game or increase my volume by just 1,000 hands, the coaching more than pays for itself and I will be on my way to supreme confidence and happiness. Â In the meantime I will try to:
As I continue with the coaching, I will update and try to do my homework assignments as often as possible. Â We talked in our first session about my issue with mistakes. I personally believe my mistakes are inexcusable. Â Ultimately, I am responsible for my actions and my results in poker. Â Yes, even though poker is a game of skill AND luck, I am still responsible for my results. Â
Two sentences I am to think about:
I didn't know any better, there's no way I could have prevented my mistake(s).
I'm responsible for using what I've learned from my mistakes and to improve on them.
It's very simple and very self-helpish, which I'm not a fan of, but I don't think you can deny that this is a healthy mentality to have. Â I'm looking forward to my future sessions w/him and already I'm seeing some improvements. Â Normally a 7k day like that, w/most of it coming from that oh so loving mindfuck of a game PLO, would drive me crazy.
