First Ever Blog

Hello,

I’m currently in my 3rd year(out of 4) studying mechanical engineering at Bath University in the UK. Just finished my first semester exams and am currently on a one week inter semester break.
I’ve never posted a blog before and have decided to start to do so for a few reasons. Hopefully keeping a blog will keep my poker more disciplined as it will be embarrasing having to type about losing a large portion of my bankroll through tilt!
Also hopefully you guys will find my blog interesting by showing the balance I have between poker and other aspects of my life.

I’ve been playing poker for about 6 years but have started taking it more seriously over the last two years and have been a small winner.
I’ve played most of the popular games HORSE, PLO, NLH, 2-7TD and badugi, my weakest game is probably stud (least hands played) and my strongest is 08. I used to tilt quite badly but i’m getting over that by ‘man-ing’ up and not letting a few bad beats get to me and picturing in my mind that tilt is a childish and weak mind set which I shouldn’t succumb to.
I have played primarily on stars until the start of this year where i decided to sign up to full tilt with DC rakeback. My usual 08 games are in the region of 2-4 to 5-10 but the games on full tilt have been soft and I’ve picked my spots at 8-16 and 15-30 and so far it has gone well. I’m just waiting for full tilt to start spreading some draw poker,,,

Rush poker hasn’t been kind to me, I found the .25/.5 NLH games very soft but I ended up losing $450 due to a few cold decks and some straight up bad play. The .1/.25 PLO games are also soft but I ended up down $17 in the games but due to the number of hands, but the sign up bonus/rakeback more than made up for it :)
I do like the idea of rush poker but it is quite difficult to put players on ranges as its quite hard to perceive the range they are putting you on. For example you open in the cut-off with AJs and get 3-Bet by unknown on the button. If the button is a poor player he would probably quick-fold if he had junk and a strong player may just be taking advantage of the button, thinking you are stealing. But it is interesting in rush poker thinking about the cost of waiting in the small blind with K7o for a steal over quick folding to get another hand.

My short term goal is to make enough money over the next 5 months to go to vegas and play some live poker for a week, from what i’ve read i like the sound of the venetian but will hopefully go to several casinos and play a few sessions.

I was going to post an 08 hand but couldn’t get the hand converter to work :(
That will do for a first blog, hopefully someone will read it and find it interesting :D

January results
Stars +$813
Full tilt +$470
Total= +$1283
