First post

My first post as a new member so a little about me and why I'm creating this blog.

I started playing NLH back in 2004 and though I was terrible, I made money at 0.25/0.50 SH tables without difficulties. I played sporadically making +25k from cash games and tournaments until I got a job in august 2007. I studied at a university while playing poker for the extra income. 2008 - 2012 I’ve played for fun when I had the time and probably lost more than I won to be honest. In June I received a job offer from my employer (due to a reorganization my current job is no more) that I couldn't accept. My boss gave me the option to leave the company with 10 months’ worth of salary as compensation. I took the offer and will leave my job once the project I’m involved in is completed, October 31st 2012. So I have a guaranteed income for 10 months and actually 12 months after that as well but I’ll only receive 80 % of my salary during those 12 months and have to make myself available on the job market to receive any money. This means that I’ll be forced to take any job offered to me during those twelve months but I don’t plan to receive any offers. Anyway I have nearly 2 years to build a bankroll to go pro and my girlfriend supports me so of we go!

Why PLO? Well it’s 2x the cards 6x the fun :) Those videos were there reason I became a member. I’ve played PLO at times and it’s a lot more fun to play and I believe it to be easier to beat at least at the lower levels. The swings do tilt me and this is the biggest leak in my game and the reason as to why I joined DC. I need to work on my game and especially the mental part of my game. When playing my A game I crush the lower limits but my B and C games need improvement. I know everyone thinks they beat the game even when losing but I do think that you need to have that belief to be successful. You have to be confident or you might just quit the game at once. Only time will tell if I really do beat the game and if I don’t then I’ll learn how to. I'm on a freeroll so if I don't make it then whatever!

Goals:

  • 50k hands at PLO 10 Zoom, October 31st 2012
  • 50k hands at PLO 25 Zoom, January 1st 2013
  • 50K hands at PLO 50 Zoom, February 28th 2013
  • Move up to PLO 100 Zoom, March 1st 2013

BR August 17th 2012 = 445,43$

+124.86$ since August 10th 2012 (9430 hands 13.24bb/100)

In order to move up after 50k hands at each level I have to at least break even pre rakeback at the current level. Also I have to have at least 100 BI at the previous level and will move back down whenever I have less than 75 BI at previous level.

  • To move up to PLO 25 Zoom I need to have +1000$ and 50k hands at PLO 10 Zoom Or +1500$ BR
  • To move up to PLO 50 Zoom I need to have +2500$ and 50k hands at PLO 25 Zoom Or +3500$ BR
  • To move up to PLO 100 Zoom I need to have +5000$ and 50k hands at PLO 50 Zoom Or +7000$ BR

If I move up to a new level before I’ve logged 50k hands I’ll move back down if I lose 10BI at the next level. Let’s say I run good and get to 1500$ having played 35k hands (not likely but one can dream) at PLO 10 Zoom and move up to PLO 25 Zoom. If I lose 250$ (10BI) I’ll move back down to PLO 10 Zoom and log another 15k hands before taking another shot.

I’ll be adding money to my BR from my salary so I won’t need to more than beat the rake to move up. If I fail to beat a level pre rakeback after 50k hands I’ll log another 50k hands and reevaluate the goals after those hands.

I'll update this on a regular basis to motivate myself.

hey,
some thoughts:
You should really remove your timesceduled goals, you can't plan poker like this i believe. + having the plan to go pro is questionable at your stage imo ;-) Just get as good as you can and go from there!!!
Good luck on your way! DC is great!

Thx for the comment! I've got two years to become pro so though it might be only a silly dream it is a dream worth the time and effort. As stated I'm on a 2 year freeroll so what ever happens happens. The goals are not that rigid so if I fail it won't matter but I need goals and the harder the better. DC seems great so I'll stick to this site.

Are you aware of rake at microstakes PLO? If not, try searching the PLO forum for discussions. I don't have it in front of me, but I seem to remember it being something like 20bb's/100.

Not trying to discourage you, but even a very good player is going to have problems overcoming that huge hit to your winrate. Purely my opinion, but 10plo and below are beatable because the competition is so incredibly bad that overcoming the rake isn't impossible, but 25plo and 50plo are more aggressive and the other players are not as incredibly bad to make up for that huge rake hit.

Some of the coaches/experienced online PLO players recommend not really grinding PLO until you can play 100plo (if I remember correctly).

Yeah I agree with slycebu, further I wouldn't recommend zoom. Because of the rake you really need to increase your edge to overcome it and I'd think getting good reads/playing less tables would be key to that, rather than just trying to get in a ton of hands.

Like think about being a 20bb/100 winner pre-rake then doing a few extra things right and getting that up to 30bb/100. The 20bb/100 dude is breakeven in a 20bb/100 rake game (although might be less rake now stars has lowered rake) and the 30bb/100 guy is a 10bb/100 crusher even though he's only a little bit better than the breakeven guy.

I haven't played micro PLO for a while and no zoom PLO so could be totally off, just be aware of it though.

Oh and GLGL! Cool situation you've found yourself in.

(Btw micro and SSNL games are still awesome, I myself think it's much easier to grind up at NL games then switch over slowly to PLO somewhere between the 50-200PLO levels)

GLGL!
Thought this may be helpful as there is some conversation regarding rake at micro PLO.

Seems to suggest get out of micros asap and otherwise game select very hard!
