10-game and TD

As expected, the action has picked up on the TD and 10-game tables, with a couple good 5/10 tables running even in the day. The TD tables are very soft, filled with either tight-passive players basically trying to make 7s and good 8s to value bet with, while playing safely with 87s, or pretty loose players who are looking to make a T and pat it early, never breaking or folding. I also love the addition of the HU tables, something Stars don't have yet.

The 10-game is interesting to play, because there are two games I know very little about: Badugi and 2-7 Single Draw. I'm so far playing quite tight in both, generally confused about what to do with any marginal hand.

Here's a hand I played in 2-7SD that I had no idea about. My first thought was that I have the best draw, but I'm OOP so I should just flat, but I decided to just take an aggressive line and see what happens, though my instincts say it's not great because once you're called your opponent will see you draw 1 and your range just becomes much weaker then. And then you face a lot of problems post-draw in 1:1 spots even with the better draw. Anyone with expertise on 2-7SD shed some light on what is standard in these situations?

However, I got pretty lucky in that I hit, and my opponent stood pat behind me, which I think represents some sort of T or J, or possibly a 9, because he didn't 4-bet pre (I have no idea on how hand strengths work and what one would 4-bet there.) This becomes an interesting GTO spot between nut draw and almost face up marginal made hand, although I doubt I would try GTO bluffing here given that I'm new to this game. I would probably not ever bother bluffing at all, playing exploitably instead of GTO.

In terms of bet sizing, I think it's an interesting spot to consider an overbet, but probably not in this kind of game without history. I think an overbet will be treated with strength the first time and I would probably get value a high proportion of the time if I just bet a bit under full pot.

Anyone else been trying out the new 10-game?

You played your hand fine. This hand is a very strong hand to 3bet, your opponent rarely has a hand as strong as the one he had, and he misplayed it. After he calls the 3bet you should expect to be ahead as almost always you will both draw 1. He should absolutely 4bet, and you should probably call that 4bet. Once you draw and he stays pat he would usually have a hand like j8xxx, j7xxx that he thought he would draw 1 with after calling, then saw your draw and changed his mind. Vs people like this I prefer an overbet of 1.5-2x pot as it will always leaves them clueless and lines up great bluffing opportunities, as well as gets max value when they have a 9 (they are never folding a 9 to 2x pot).

Thanks for the comment. Had almost no idea about 2-7SD when I played this hand and I feel like I have a better idea about ranges after your comment.
