Remember, short controlled bursts
This holds very true for me these days. I’ve been playing a ton of Call of Duty MW2 and I’ve been playing short controlled bursts of PLO100 sessions. If I could put in the volume at poker that I have at MW2 over the past week I’d be swimming in rakeback if nothing else. Playing short sessions has been working out for me. It helps me focus on playing when I feel good and taking breaks or quitting when I’m not.
I started playing MW2 online a week ago, I’m at level 41 so far. I squeeze in games whenever I can I’ve even been going home on my lunch break to play. Xbox live : rvtsteve
I want to play more poker though. So I’m going to try hold off the gaming until after I get in a session or two, or at least be acutely aware of my state-of-mind and play poker if nothing is off. I felt like playing poker last night but instead of quitting MW2 and logging some hands I kept blasting fools with my RPD loaded with FMJs. When I finally did log in I saw I had been missing what seemed like some really juicy action which dried up considerably within minutes of me getting on those tables.
Playing short sessions has been working out for me. It helps me focus on playing when I feel good and taking breaks or quitting when I’m not. That said I had my first real losing session of the month last night, though nothing too brutal. Then I came back later and played tired and lost a little more. Thankfully I table select and got out before I really spewed.
I think that second session came from chasing my loss in the first and also wanting to put in more volume. I need some strategies for putting in better/longer sessions. It seems like whenever I become aware of how much I’m winning or losing I start to change up my play, usually towards the weak tight end of the spectrum, and when I do that I notice I need to take break and regroup. So one thing I’m going to try and avoid is looking at my session stats and balance until I’m done playing and also come back after I make a quit and play more once I feel focused again. Hopefully I can put in some more volume this way, while just focusing on the games at hand.
I also really want to incorporate a stop loss. It’s going to be between 3 and 5 BI’s. Somewhere in there I start to get attached to the loss and it changes how I feel. That said, I can lose a few big pots in standard spots and continue on as normal, but I can also lose like 3/4 of a stack to a huge fish who gets in with bottom pair on the flop and have to quit immediately. So I’m going to keep it flexible.
I have a few hands to show you guys, but I’m at work so they’ll have to wait until next time.
Holler
