Those who play for the money find it difficult when losing. Those who play to play well indirectly play for the money. It sounds like your mindset is in the right place. Poker is a game won by those who focus on making good decisions and nothing else. It doesn't matter what stakes you play or what game you play, it's all about making good decisions. Score yourself on your decisions and forget your green line. That will rise naturally.

Boxing day is the day after Christmas. It's the day you box up all the nasty presents you got and list them on Ebay! Clue's in the name.

Also - yes all credit to Tecmo who has been working with myself and some other internet friends. I shall blog on that in more detail next week.

I hope to someday repay the service he has done for me by sitting to his right at the triple draw tables. :)

The skill level isn't higher whatsoever at 10NL. Its exactly the same and the play really doesn't get much better until 50NL. Even then the regs there are only slightly better and you get a huge shift in the play at around 400NL. Until then its all the same.

Its your own mental blocks keeping you from staying at 10NL. Plug your own mental leaks and your game will excel...

what stakes do you play?? and what type (6-max, HU)??

8-8 is my favourite hand, but they can be tricky to play. if its full ring then i tend to limp with them looking to flop big. in 6-max they are more powerful but again i am mainly looking to set-mine in the right spots rather than get over committed pre-flop.

do you have and HH's which involve 8-8?

So that's why stove had him as such a favourite

Still stands that if we give him AA,66,22 and only one pocket pair, perhaps 33 to give him a runner runner wheel draw I'm still 56/44 priced in.

Shame I buggered the analysis up, I quite liked that post :(

your range is off... he can't have suited aces since Ad is on the board. He can repop with any off suited or Ax and suited (nondiamond) Ax as a miniraise often in NL2 isn't as strong as you would think. You can also add PPs 77+ since (especially TT-JJ) NL2 players will do this kind of goofy plays.

this is NL2 and being an unknown I often treat them as playing with a standard NL2 player range (thinking ax is teh nuts, PPs unfoldable, flush draws are shove material, etc) unless he does a play which makes me say AH-HA and then I take a note.

Also your raise to 56c at that point is decent but a bit large (although you can extract tons of value from players with weaker hands at this level which is good). if you had raised to 32c and he min raised to 64 then obviously your SPR would have been different and somewhat worth considering... maybe even a call... but as it stands with his repop the SPR of (near if not better than) 1:1 I am confident I am committed... plus random NL2 tendancies just too much to let go.

run the ranges again remodified and let me know the equity as I am curious and don't have stove on me at this local

What it really comes down to is the quality of your opponents. You have far more experience than me at 2nl and will be able to gauge their competency better than I, but I'm guessing, even though it doesn't make sense, that we can still include some % of bare flush draws. 22/66 is definitely in his range, but he just flatted the flop even though there is a flush draw out there so that makes me a bit more hesitant to say they make up most of his range. The other thing to point out is the Ad is on the flop. This means he can't have Adxd and you need to take all of those suited Aces out of your estimation of his range.

Hand 1 : Baluga Theorem
http://archives1.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Number=6607951

Hand 2 : I'd probably play it the same but I might bet less on the turn and river. Unless he's a huge calling station, someone that calls 2 pot sized bets is going to have a strong hand.

Hand 3 : Min raise on the river is always 2 pair + at these stakes. Not to say I wouldn't play it any differently, other then prolly shoving the river instead of leaving myself with 0.16c behind.

a ABC solid tag style is a good foundation but even at the micro stakes there is still a lot of room to get creative with restealing blinds, 3 betting light and floating among other things. 2-5NL are still easily beatable for 20+bb/100 you just have to take advantages of the small edges when they come up because everyone else at micros are just playing their two cards. i beat 5NL for 27bb/100 earlier this year when i was starting.

Thanks for the comments.

Just to clarify - I've no objection to getting coolered by some trash that hit a miracle, I wasn't trying to suggest that I feel I had some entitlement by virtue of the strength of my range.

I was just really shocked when I saw that the buyins I had been writing off as coolers were actually, on reflection clearly telegraphed and I should have got away from them.

It's not a disaster. Actually today I think it's rather comforting. This week I began questioning my understanding of the game. It's nice to be able to think that the fundamentals remain true -> you play bad :: you run bad

"What's the best hand I can make him fold?" - if you have better, bet for value; if you have worse, bluff ONCE and then stop unless you improve.

If he raises, count the realistic # of combos that can beat you. If it is more than 12 on the flop, fold; more than 10 on the turn, fold; more than 8 on the river? Yep, you guessed it, fold. Can't go too far wrong here.

Totally agree. You did everything right if you know how to quit after only a 40 minute session. There will be a point, (if it hasn't already happened yet), where studying will actually be more fun than playing. Then you have to convince yourself to actually play poker instead of the other way around ;). Just keep posting!

its a very good thing to know when you are playing bad and an even better thing to realize quitting is best. Dont look at this day is just a day where you "played bad", but one where you also quit well... As long as you learn from something you did poorly today it isnt for waste...

I think you have a pretty conservative BR management policy which is great. I would be cautious about setting a $ amount before moving up to the next level though. It often has more to do with your skill level than anything else. There are a lot of players who go on heaters and reach their BR requirements to move up but do not have the skill advantage. I'm not saying that this is the case, but maybe set a goal of 20k more hands at 5NL and if it so happens that your BR falls into place and you feel comfortable, then go for it!

I think it depends on what MP is doing, I don't expect my CBet to fold much of his MP calling range, he's probably raising over pairs on that board

What do we think of:

Pfft 5 minutes, literally!

AKo middle position, call a raise from unknown UTG. Co calls behind.

Monotone low flop gives me the nut flush draw, I call a 3/4 pot C-bet CO calls behind to build a big pot. I get my chips in when and an Ace comes on the turn.

UTG had flopped the 2nd nut flush with KQs. NH WP. I'll get me coat.

That's awesome. Very good thinking :). I play a in a league where I live 2 or 3 nights a week and I usually act strong all the time whether I am or not, but every once in awhile you can catch someone who is leaning one way or the other, and act in such away to push them further in that direction. I don't think you can completely change someones gut, but if this guy thinks you are a bluffer AND you appear like your bluffing his instinct is going to get in his way every time.

Good job!
