Running for the red line

Wow January really smacked into me just how many levels there are in Poker.
In december I was luck enough to get a chance to work with some fellow DC members and the ever dedicated TecmoSuperBowl himself in a really great study group.  Tecno* is leading the way as our Coach.
*sic - (Insider joke - there's a $1 fine for anyone spelling his name right in the group chat)

One of the first things that became apparent from our sessions was how much of the next level in our development will be played postflop. We all have pretty solid preflop games, and these days a lot of the guys you will be up against at the micros are going to be doing just fine preflop.

Wow my postflop game sucks! As soon as I started looking for more spots to play pots in position I really became aware of how badly I play postflop. This isn't a consequence of looser or nitty play, although it has highlighted a huge weak-tight leak that I was getting away with before.

My January results are truly shocking, but personally I think it's money well spent, because once I get a handle on the concepts that this has introduced to me I think I am going to have a huge advantage over the 10nl player pool, and hopefully push on up through 25nl too. I play bad postflop, but the competition are definately equally uncomfortable.

I think I understand what better players are talking about when they talk about TAG fish, and breakeven rakeback grinders. I think they are talking about me!

I've actually dropped back down to 2NL to work on my handreading, and try and stem some of the losses, February will see me continuing to put in the additional 15k hands needed to complete the 50K Hand Challenge I have been active in. But I will be much more interested in becoming comfortable playing postflop in position, assigning ranges that are more refined than "Nuts, 2nd Nuts, Top Pair Better Kicker".

I really want to thank TecmoSuperBowl (you can have that $ - you earned it!), Bryce (NixonTheGrouch) and Mike (aumorgan) for all their support this month. I still have a long way to go, but with these guys supporting me I have every incentive to plug these leaks and move on up!
