Exploiting opponents tendencies is not the same as attacking regs
I've been working on the Mt Robusto project this last week. In a stunning coincidence I've also been crushing 2NL over the last few sessions.Â
Small sample I know but I really felt that I have been playing poker in these past few sessions not just "Grinding"
I set out in August to focus more on exploiting opponents. It occurs to me now that I may have had the wrong mental approach. The concept is sound - vary your play against perceived weaknesses in the opposition. Somewhere along the line I think something in the word "Exploit" turned, in my mind, into a concept more akin to "Engage aggressively " - the natural end result of this thinking was laggy spew.
A sweat session with the gentleman and scholar who posts on the forums under the pseudonym "Gizardpuke" identified some great examples of this that were a little hidden in my session reviews. Also something I read on the forums: (I'm sorry for not crediting the poster but I forget)
Think about every play you make. Think, click. Think, click.
It's the same concept - Play the hand according to the situation, and apply your skill advantage effectively. But I think it's a lot less spew inducing.
I think this is an example of what Tommy Angelo might call "Right Speak" and "Right Thinking".
