Degeneracy downunder

June was a bit of a topsyturvey month for me I think.

I was good at 10NL, like 8ptbb good, over a reasonable amount of hands. Unfortunately, I was about half as bad as that at 25NL (I think I’m running bad, the ten biggest pots I lost I got the money in as a favourite or something ridiculous) which is just a bit grey really.

I know that the competition isn’t any better, and the “regs” are definitely no better. I was sitting on someones left yesterday who I see posting in hand history’s and have often thought “wtf; that’s just not right” and I was about to shut down tables but I thought I’d stick around to see if I could abuse him a little bit. He tried to steal my blind four orbits in a row, and I 3 bet, floated and raised the turn, 3 bet, called down and minraised river and basically took like half a buy in off him just because he didn’t adjust. And even after I’d done it 3 times in a row he kept doing it?!? Anyway, proof positive that not all players who watch videos are actually thinking about anything, and having someone say “if you have someone who is tight in the BB you should be trying to steal a lot” doesn’t actually mean you know when to put it in to practice.

The sad part about this is that I know he’s a winner at 25NL while I’m currently not =/ Pray for a bit of a heater I guess! Just so I’m a little more comfortable with the bankroll. And if I continue to bleed off cash I’ll just use the ironman bonus monies to subsidise my roll haha.

Micro coaching: I’m not sold. I think a coach could really help me with a lot of things, but I’m not sure that the cost benefit at 25NL is there. Like, its only 2 BI’s right, and it will pay itself off down the line, but 2BI plus a 4 to 5 buying downswing and I’m starting to get pretty close to going back to 10NL, which is just not happening. I’ve sent a few pm’s off and theres a very shortlist, he looks cool and I just want to ask a few more questions but yeah, unlikely to actually start until I get this 25NL thing under control. Since I grinded my roll from my 2NL up to 25NL now, I’d be pretty upset about depositing again; but at the same time the reason I did the grind was so that I knew I was a winner a the stakes before continuing on. I’m sure that I’m a winner at 10NL so I won’t be going back there, but yeah it would be nice to not have to deposit to keep playing 25NL.

Without further ado, July goals:
1) Breakeven at 25NL
2) Play 20k hands.

ta da. Pretty simple really. So yeah I just checked my goals for last month and I definitely hit it for 10NL but not for 25NL, so I give that a green light imo.

Also, SSNLHE is really really good and Matt Flynn is doing a sick job of answering questions in the secret HQ, props to him.
